My attempt to get some tasty CA rolls tonight failed, miserably.

So, for some reason, I had the hankering for some good 'ol CA rolls. My local market, which isn't a large chain, has some of the best CA rolls. I go down there and of course they are out. :(

I figure that other supermarkets will have decent rolls. Next I go to Albertsons, I don't even find a place for them. Vons is my last stop and they have some. Huge mistake, they tasted like sh!t.

The hankering is still there and I have a bad taste in my mouth. :(

At least Vons had Heineken on sale, must wash down horrible CA rolls.

edit: CA rolls = sushi

er..

Im not surprised about the sushi though. They usually make it around lunchtime, and its gone by the afternoon or early evening

EDIT: and large chain supermarket sushi ALWAYS tastes like crap

My ignorance of sushi can not be hidden. Recommend some places to go in the north county?

theres a place thats reasonably priced right off the 5n and 78e exit (jefferson). make a right at the saturn (?) dealership to get on vista way, and its right by the trader joes on the left hand side. sushi n joy i believe is the name. its owned by a cool little couple (husband is the main chef) and they have a pretty diverse menu and if you ask the chef they can make recommendations based on what you like. not to mention since you like california rolls, they sell 8 of them for $2.75.

i havent been in awhile since i just got a place built by my house here in vista, but i may return since they are also building a beverages and more (bevmo) right near the place. not to mention, i liked it better. better atmosphere, better tasting sushi. if you need any more info or recommendations, feel free to ask.

since you like california rolls that much and the earlier post you made confirmed that, i would probably slowly work up the ladder and continue on with the rolls for now but going with nothing too drastic like rainbow rolls, caterpillar rolls and baked alaskan rolls. while there, look on the menu and descriptions and dont be afraid to try something else that may catch your eye.

or you could drop $25 at todai's by dave and buster's off the 8 and try different things at the buffet until you find something you like.

If you were going to go for supermarket sushi, you might have stayed nearer to the top of the store chain...

Does that mean Trader Joes, or does that mean Ralph's? In South Bay Los Angeles, Albertsons is not where you want to go for something fresh... maybe it's different where you are?

At 11pm, my options are limited.

Ralph's is 24 hours around here, and they're in better neighborhoods... Albertson's closes at 11PM, and they're the first store I've ever been to with bullet-proof glass and bathrooms that get locked at 8PM.

I just moved to LA in January.
