~~My Athlon XP-Mobile project: reaching 4GHz~~ EDIT: 3GHz not 4GHz.

I want to try to reach 3.0GHz on a 2500+ XP-M chip. I read where 2500+ XP-M chips can overclock to 3200+ (2.4GHz) speeds with stock cooling. I would water cool the chip in hopes of reaching 3.0GHz. My setup would be as follows:

DFI NFII Ultra Infinity
2500+ XP-M
PQI DDR400 2-2-2-5
6600 GT
Water Cooling: (Dangerden or Swiftech)

To add information, since the FSB of the 2500+ XP-M chip is 266Mhz would buying DDR 400 be a waste or would it provide extra overclocking headroom? I heard XP-M chips are unlocked, is this true? I am open to advice, as well as suggestions for parts.

4GHZ???

you are going to need some serious voltage mods and more exteme cooling to hit that speed. Good luck 🙂

You also will want ram that can handle the extreme overclocks, or maybe even trying lower speeds on teh ram to remove that as a bottle neck

Hmm, come to think of it, perhaps I set my goal a little too high. 3GHz shouldn't be out of the question with a decent chip and decent cooling right? I wonder if 4GHz would be possible with phasechange cooling? Even if it is possible with phasechange cooling there's no way in hell I would spend $900 for cooling.

4GHZ is not a very realistic goal. Even with exotic cooling. 3.2ghz would be a nice goal. Of course, all is for nothing if you cant run this machine 24/7.

Any other suggestions or advice for me? Would the PQI DDR 400 2-2-2-5 memory fit the bill for overclocking or should I buy another kind of memory? I have not ordererd my hardware yet; thus I am still open to advice and/or suggetions for this system.

Lastly, with a decent chip and decent cooling would reaching 3GHz be out of the question? 😕
