my athlon is smoked. what about MB?

I was putting together a new system. Athlon 1900. well i turned it on and after several secs i smelled smoke and pulled plug. bad contact with the heatsink(dumb me) Is the motherboard probably dead too? Is there a way to test without another CPU? I would just go ahead and send it back but if it works fine they will charge some damn service fee for looking at it.

hard to say. if it was only a few sec, then yeah it should be ok.

It may have fried your MB. Good luck.
