Last night Charter / Timewarner network had an internet blackout in Southern California and neither me (charter) or my friend (timewarner) can get online after 9:00PM.

This monring I turned on my PC and still can't get online. And I found that it's my ASUS 500gp DD-WRT v24 can't get an IP from cable modem (Linksys BEFCMU10 v4). It happened before, and all I have to do is probably turn off modem and dd-wrt several time adn then it works. Today, i's not the case.

The Charter network is good, since if I use PC or another linksys router to connect directly to the modem, they both get an IP immediately, but my dd-wrt based asus 500gp just can't.

What gives and can someone help?

I need to get asus 500gp going since it's the only wireless router I got and other PC in my house use wireless. Thanks!

Have you reset your Asus router? You have above that you've done all the necessary steps except that.

You are right. I have to reset everything back to factory default to get it going.

Why the heck will it do that? Though I like the feature set of DD-WRT, I really find sometimes it's really give me more headache than the benifit it's giving me.

which version are you using? I accidentally flashed an alpha unstable version a few days ago on one of my routers and It took me hours to figure out that was why the connections kept dropping :D

v24 mega.

I tried v24 PS1 several months ago and it's buggy (I can't remember what bugs) so I reverted back to v24.

In the past I like to flash the newest "stable version". Not anymore. I found DD-WRT author tried to support as many devices as possible, just like Microsoft, and you know what happens.

I found ASUS 500gp is very tricky, or should I say DD-WRT?

What I've done with mine (DGL-4300) is use a built-in utility to backup all the settings. That way if I have to hard reset (for some reason every few months. ISP dishes out new addresses then everything stops working) I can just restore those settings.

Like what you said, Charter seems to change IP range in my area again after last night's blackout, and somehow that makes dd-wrt not functioning.

I'll take your advice and starts to backup firmaware settings. Thanks!
