I just started lifting a couple of days ago after a long break. Is this arm soreness going to be a problem as long as I keep lifting, or is this painful because I just started?

oh quit maste... um nevermind...

did you stretch?

you are referring to freeweights or machines, right?

were you doing HEAVY weights, or just something light?

and how long is a long break? muscles are muscles, but if they are not used to the strain, it's best to ease into it...

It's painfull because you just started up again. It'll go away after you start getting back into it, personally, If I'm not sore after every time I lift I feel like I'm not pushing myself hard enough. I love being sore after my workouts. the longer the better..

Speculum is right, your muscles are getting "worn" in :) The most the soreness should last is a week at most, be sure not to lift that much for the first week, even if you can lift more, simply because you need to slowly gain your strength back. Good luck! You'll find it fun and it become a hobby to go lift weights, and it makes you stronger and better looking :)

He's talking about being sore like a day after, which is NOT normal for lifting weights when you are "worn" in. Like an hour or two after is acceptable but not a couple days later unless your starting up.

Feeling sore the next day is not good because that is a sign of not eating enough carbo/protein to replace what you have lost through your weight training.

By the looks of Sacotool's message, him being sore sounds pretty normal. He did say he just started lifting again after a long break. Think about that for a minute.

ahhh don't worry about it. soreness is normal. you are not wierd :)
it'll go away after a while, unless you're going to always go heavy. i recommend stretching to relieve a little bit of that soreness and drinking something high in carbs while you workout like carborush. supplement yourself after workout w/ a meal high in protein, preferably a shake (whey protein, best way to go...try nitrotech, the nitrogen delivery system for the protein is excellent for muscle grow/repair) about an hour after you have finished excercising.
there's a whole science to lifting, but it's just too much to get into. try checking out the weider principles, they offer a great background for starting and even advanced lifters.
NOTE: DON'T FORGET YOUR CARDIO! ALTHOUGH YOU ARE LIFTING, TO EXCERCISE YOUR MOST IMPORTANT MUSCLE YOU HAVE TO DO CARDIO! 45 MINUTES...75% MAX HEART RATE IS EXCELLENT CARDIO WORKOUT.
NOTE: EAT WELL! LOTS OF CARBS IF YOU'RE GONNA WORK YOURSELF HARD IN THE GYM. LOTS OF PROTEIN! GOOD AMOUNT OF FAT!

p.s. in summary, soreness is fine...don't worry about it. stretch to relieve it a bit, but don't be concerned if it's still there.

ditto. just started up again after several months of inactivity. i don't usually feel the soreness set in until after i wake up. as of now i'm finding it hardest to get back into a decent cardio routine. :(

I had that problem with being sore after lifting in the past.

after obtaining a large extra strengh supporter so that I had only to pull a short length out for relief, the soreness went away.

I have yet to figure out how to not faint when a hot babe walks by. any suggestions ?
