in all, I lost about $1000 of stuff. A nicely modded xbox upgraded with an 80gig hd, my canon s330 digital camera plus charger, my 2.4Ghz siemens phone, credit cards, an expired drivers license, my social security card, miscellaneous change, some dvds, and most important of all, my feeling of security in my home. Cops came by and took fingerprints, but found none. Bastard must have worn a glove. Now I'm up, unable to sleep....

Looks like they used a screwdriver and pushed the locking mechanism in. I didn't lock the deadbolt cuz, well, it's broken. it's like they knew to come right for my place. I'm up in the bay area, norcal.

Nope, but I'm a full time student, so I should be covered under my parent's insurance. However, since it's only about $1000 that I lost, I'll probably just call it a loss, since I don't want to start filing small claims. I saw on the news that some insurance companies drop the policy if the insured files more than 2 claims.

The same thing happened to me 4 months ago. They took my stereo, TV, digital camera and even my bottle of change!
You should ask your landlord to put an extra lock for your door.
That feeling of insecurity will subside after a couple of weeks.

I do hope you call all the credit reporting bureaus and put a watch on your credit.

Social security card + license = Identity theft.

Sorry to hear about it.

They aren't gonna do anything special since someone stole my social security card and driver's license. It's up to me to make sure they don't mess with my credit. I doubt the reporting bureaus will do anything out of their way to protect me. What sucks is that I can't even get a new social security number unless I can prove that my identity has been stolen, meaning I can't do anything to prevent my identity from being stolen. I can only act on it once it has been stolen. sucks...

Did you have renteres insurance? (nevermind you answered that already!)
I'd file if I were you, just for the xbox back! What's the consequence of losing the SocialSecurity card? hmmm!
That sucks, just like the ads to the left.

Anyway, I went searching for them burglar today. He used my credit card twice, once at a gas station and once at Safeway. I went to the gas station, and the only thing I could verify was that he did use my credit card there. The gas station has no cameras pointing at the pumps. Then, I went to the Safeway, and the store manager said he couldn't let me look at the security tapes. All he could do was give me a detailed report saying that my card was indeed used there. But that's pointless since I already know that. Only way they would release the tapes is if the police request them from the Safeway corporate security office. I doubt the cops would do that since this is just a minor burglary. They probably have better things to do in Berkeley.

But you don't, so ask the cops anyways!

Or you can steal YOUR OWN identity. Apply for credit cards, use them, and pretend that it was an identity theif. Is it fraud, sure it is....but thats a great way to recvoer all your lost merchandise, plus get a new social security number. Work the system, its the American way.

Dude, don't wait for the manager to put a deadbolt on your door, do it yourself! That sucks man... hope those bastards pay for what they did, since it's more than just the monetary value of the items stolen that you lost... :(
