I live in Atlanta,Ga in Fulton County. I have been sick the past three days and have been spending a lot of time in bed. Last night at about 3:30 AM I thought I heard cars being towed. I saw flashing lights but didn't think much of it. Then the noises get louder so I look out my window. The set of building right next to mine is spewing fire out the top. The cars being towed was actually fire engines. I wake up my friend and he looks out but goes right back to sleep. Then an apartment manager came to my apartment and said to get everyone out. I was like damn. I grabbed a few things and walked outside.

There was a lot of freakin' fire trucks out there, including a ladder truck or two. It completely destroyed the building next to me. There is a grove of pine trees between the buliding that burnt down and my building. Luckily they kept the pine trees wet so the fire didn't spread. I would say it got 24units. They are destroyed. Everyone in those places lost everything. Last night sucked.

wow, thats pretty crappy. can't imagine losing everything i have in a fire...would absolutely crush me. (the sentimental value of things, not the materialistic value). Glad it didn't get to your buidling though...and glad you are ok and all.

Last year a development right down the block from me burnt to the ground. Must have been hundreds of units. I have pictures and videos of it somewhere. It was unbelievable. Must have been the biggest fire in the NYC area in years.

That's sad. I hope everyone's OK. That's one of the scary things about living in an apartment, especially one of the big suburban mega-plexes with hundreds of units. The more people in a building, the more likely that any one person is going to accidentally burn the place to the ground.

I feel slightly safer since my landlord has banned candles in his buildings.

"I'll evict your ass," his exact words, "if I see a candle burning in your apartment." He has high blood pressure and he talks tough. He's a good landlord though, not really an asshole at all under the surface.
