It's the free re-badged Kaspersky anti-virus program. It stopped updating on the 30th of August. Both computers have the exact same problem. Any reason why? Anybody else have this problem?

It was announced like the week before that, stating it will no longer be supported. Time to find a new AV my friend, and get off of AOL. AOL is the biggest POS.

Although in general that is true, I thought the anti-virus using Kapersky was ok.

But it is time to find another solution.

I've been noticing this too. Came here to find a solution and I guess I got the answer.

I'll probably go back to AVG or Avast.

Kaspersky 7.0 Internet Security (for use with up to 3 computers) | FREE after 2 MiRs (one is a competitive upgrade rebate)

Alternatively, there is:

AntiVir Personal Edition Classic
  • Free to home users
  • Instructions on how to disable the popup
  • Using about 7mb of memory right now on my system (real-time protection is enabled) and you will never notice that it is on unless it detects a virus
  • AntiVir has one of the highest (if not the highest) detection rates in the industry, far out pacing AVG Free Edition, aVast and clamwin (the other freebies) and rivaling (and sometimes surpassing) Kaspersky. Link to several detection rate tests

Change over to the Kaspersky servers. Just point download.newaol.com to 127.0.0.1 in your hosts file.

My latest signatures are from 9/2/2007 at 3:54 am. It's 6:26 am right now, very up-to-date.

Edit: To edit host file...

Add the line-
127.0.0.1 download.newaol.com

To your hosts file, which is located at-
windows/system32/drivers/etc

(Open it with notepad)

My relatives reported this problem, but it seems to have fixed itself (they update fine on the aol servers when I was over at their house two days ago).

The AOL AVS update servers have been flaky for several months, but not as flaky as Antivir Classic (free version) servers. :p

Just like it reads. Once you get to the etc folder and you see the hosts "file" right click it and select notepad to open it with (EG open with then select). Just add the line to the bottom of the hosts file then save-exit-done.

that is strange it seems that it fixed itself automatically and still getting update signatures.
