My angry rant for today...

So the battery in my Mitsubishi Mirage dies and I have to put a new one in. The radio/cd player has that anti-theft feature where it won't work if you take it out, or take power away from it. So I call up Mitsubishi to see if they can give me the code over the phone since I don't have the card that code is supposed to be on cause I bought the car used. The guy on the phone tells me it'll cost $40. WTF?!? $40 for a 4 digit number... fvck that. I'll get a new fvcking radio. Sons o' bitches!

Hey, a nice excuse to get that nice car stereo you've been thinking about! 😉

LOL. What a friggin scam they've got going there. Yes, as Jehovah said it's a good reason to upgrade anyway!

I don't need anything exotic... as long as it plays CD's I'll be happy with it. I'm thinkin $80-100. I'd rather do that than pay $40 for a 4 digit number.

My old Jetta came with a card that had the code on it. The dealer warned me about the same thing (i.e. I would be charged). Who did you buy the car from? Ask them about the card.

It may seem like a scam, but imagine if someone actually stole the radio. Do you want them to get the activation code easily or for free?

when my battery in my 99 gmc sonoma ext cab, my radio has the anti-theft too. well i took it to the dealer to see if i can get it unlock, they told me it would be $30, i was like no thanks, it gave me a good reason to go out and buy a adapter kit to install my sony cd player head unit.

so isnt this in fact working as planned?

imagine if someone stole the radio out of your car and could call up and get the code over the phone.

Google is your friend: Get the serial number off the radio, and start calling other dealerships... one of them will give it to you for free.... just keep trying.

That was pathetic. Your subject is trivial, your execution is lacking, and your rage just isn't showing. This is a gripe, not a rant.

Who cares? I still don't get my radio back.

My 97 Jetta was the same way, never lost the code but many people had. They have to call up the factory/corporate to lookup the vin and retrieve your code. It takes some time so they probably are billing you for their 1/2 hour of time... like the repair shop would bill you for a half hour of time to change a headlight. Supposedly, a lot of Jetta dealerships (the ones who originally sold it new) keep a directory of the codes so they can serve their customers... do you know where your car was sold new from ?

Free? Yes. Easily? No. I'm willing to drive over there and show them my registration and title and all that crap. But I'm not willing to pay $40 for a 4 digit number.

who gives a fck? if the radio is stolen, you don't have it anymore, it doesn't matter if the thief can use it or not. this "theft deterrent" is a scam
