My AMD 1GHZ CPU is not working =( what can I do?

Hi, I just got a AMD Thunderbird 1ghz 266mhz cpu and it did not work. I tried all sorts of things to make it work, but I may have burned it while I was trying to make it work. I tried the computer with another cpu and it works fine. What can I do with this CPU? did I just lose $180? Can I mail it back to AMD? Please help me. Thanks!
