My Altec Lansing IM716 earbud review - 3 out of 10...

I bought the im716's from Amazon for 69.99 shipped and thought, "wow, great deal! These are $100+ everywhere else!". Product was used on 5th generation 30gb Ipod.

Pros - Slightly better sound quality than bantam player earbuds.

Cons - Even on MP3's at 320kbps the difference was nothing "to write home about".
The volume at max was pathetic, nowhere near loud enough, even in DEAD silence.
They hurt my ears. Could not get a comfortable fit with stock tips or with the foam tips. But to test sound quality, I dealt with the pain to place them where they supposed to be placed, so this did not affect my review of the sound quality.
Made me consider looking at an external amp to boost the volume, but on second thought, I just returned them to Amazon. Add $50 for REQUIRED amp and the real price is $120. The amp is such a requirement it should have been included in the package...

So now the search continues for either quality headphones or earbuds. I am done with this "inner ear canal" BS.

Have you tried the more inexpensive offerings from Shure, Etymotic Research, and Ultimate Ears? I'd give them a try.
