So, I had my eye on the 6800gt for a while now. I live in San Diego and wanted to get a gt at compusa after reading about its availability in the hot deals section. I called all of the compusa stores in San Diego county and including north county. All were either sold out or on preorders. I found out that there are some in stock at the santa ana store and the city of industry store as well.
When I called the santa ana store (closest from san diego), they said it was out of stock. The city of industry store has 4 in stock at 4pm and 2 at 5pm. They were selling like hot cakes and the manager refused to accept "holds". I was desperate so I decided to drive all the way up to city of industry just to get this card. I braved and endured the torturous I-5 traffic coming from san diego, the I-5 traffic near santa ana, and the disgusting 57 north traffic towards pomona. I called them again only to find out that the last 2 were sold.
Needless to say, I was frustrated by fruitless effort and the traffic. So on my way back, I saw a glimpse of the mission viejo store and said to myself: "What the heck, I know from online that they're out of stock but it doesn't hurt to try; it's on my way anyway". When I checked the shelves, no gt were seen. But then as I exited, a sales guy brought a box and gave it to a customer saying "You're in luck, we're just got these today". I glanced over and it was the gt. I quickly asked the sales guy to grab one. $399 and 3 hours of traffic later, I am a proud and happy owner of a gt. I totally did not expect the mission viejo store to have any in stock. I guess the online inventory did not update the store's inventory. This was yesterday and after my purchase, they had like 2-3 left. They're probably all gone now.
Now I'm running this sweet thing @ 423/1.14GHz OC with 3dmark03 at 12300. Temp on windows load is 52 and maxes out at 63 after 1 hour of Doom3.
Very very happy customer indeed.
