Bought two of these over eBay last friday. Arrived on Thursday of this week. They are replacing my old Dell U2407 and a Hanns-G 20in.

The displays are super bright, enough to burn my retinas, so I turned that down. I'm not seeing any dead pixels on either, and the back lighting looks pretty uniform. I will say, the stands are definitely cheap. Even though these are identical monitors, one rises slightly higher than the other. And both wobble when I touch the bezel. But hey, for 290 a piece, I'll live with it.

Still getting used to them, going to have to amend my habits a little. I miss the USB inputs on the sides my Dell had, but its not a huge loss. I intend to pick up a USB hub with an SD card reader built into it after I review Newegg a bit. :)

If you're interested in replacing the stands, I put 3M stands on mine.

Just keep in mind that for some reason the vesa mounting holes on the Shimians are very shallow, so the screws which come with the stand won't work. I had to go to Lowe's and pick up some shorter M4 screws.

Thanks for the link. I was toying with the idea of getting some kind of single mount stand for both panels. :)

I initially thought I'd have to buy a new stand and do the teardown on my Q270 Catleap but the stand itself is ok, it's how it's attached to the bezel. Anyway on a solid desk it doesn't even rattle so I left it alone.

Do the Shimians have to be taken apart and void warranty to swap the stand like the Catleaps?

The base attaches to a step on the monitor with two screws. The Screws are metal and seemed like pretty typical screws, they aren't going to break. The stem they screw into is attached to the bottom of the display by what appears to be a single screw, shaped like an L. Not sure if there's clips under that screw to provide stability or not.

I'd have to unscrew it and look, but given the VESA mounts on the rear, I'd expect that L shaped stem would be relatively easy to remove to allow multi-monitor mounts.

Well, on the catleap you have to actually pop open the case and void any warranty you may have had. Some ebay sellers will assist you on warranty claims so this was a concern for some especially since popping open the case can break the fragile wiring that attaches some of the PCBs.

Found this pic at the thread on Overclockers.net on the ShiMians.

The models I recieved has only a single screw on that stem though. Still, looks like it'd be easy to remove.

That looks much better than what I would have to do. Luckily my desk is solid enough.
