Hi.

Okay the cooler looks wild, the only thing i need to know is on my stock card there is thermal past on the GPU now i read the installation instructions that came with the Accelero X2 and it says :

"Paste residue is to be removed with a soft paper tissue cautiously"

Now is this correct? I thought i needed to put some alcohol on a q-tip.

SO can i just remove that paste on the GPU with a tissue paper and it will be okay?

I think they mean existing thermal paste on the GPU. Clean that with some lint free cloth and rubbing alcohol. Be sure there is more applied on the HSF already or apply some of your own.

you will need to use alcohol or some other cleaning solution (i use ArctiClean) to remove all of the original thermal paste from the GPU. Just using a dry cloth will not remove all of the thermal paste (some residue will remain causing your new cooler not to work at its best). the X2 cooler has a thermal pad installed on it so you will not need to apply any paste after you remove the old stuff.

another word of advice, make sure when you install the new cooler that all the holes are lined up before the memory pads (on the x2 cooler) touch the memory chips on the card. the reason for this is because the thermal pads on the x2 are very very sticky and hard to remove once they make contact to the memory on the card so make sure it is lined up correctly.

DIDN'T I WARN YOU? HUH? HUH???!!! You can't remove the damn thing >_< I warned you!

Accelero X2 mem pads have super glue. Good bye warranty

Use the default mem pads -- please save yourself some heartache...unlike me.

Same here. The X2 didnt even work that great for me. I get waaay better temps with the leafblower just because it doesnt cook the inside of my case with hot air.

When I tried to get the X2 off, I swear to God I thought I was going to break my XTX in half.

I just installed a X2 on my x1900gt and it did not have thermal pads. The instuctions mentioned thermal pads for the memory, but none there? I left on the stuff ati had on the memory (looked like silly putty - was thick 1/8 of an inch). I removed the thermal junk supplied and put on artic silver (on the gpu) and actually my temps went up a degree. Wish I had the thermal pad back. Anyways is nice and quiet, and 10 degrees cooler so not too bad. Sort of wish I had went zalman or water. Also got a ocz 600 watt ps and it is really quite loud - darn it. Oh well my brother is wanting more power and he doesn't mind noise.

i sticK with leafblower too. :)

what I don't understand is... why doesn't a company make a cooler that blows out externally like the old' artic cooling silencers.. they should make silencers for the X1800/X1900 series :(

HIS makes them, but not available apart from their X1900 line afaik.

the old style arctic cooling coolers don't cool off the power circuitry, which is bad considering how much power the x1900 sucks down.

i like my accelero because it is dead silent. the temps dropped a tiny bit as well, it seems.

i bought the accelero x2 a short while and the reason that is not doing "wonders" is because you gotta let the paste "bed in" (become hard), it takes time for this to happen like a month or so, after the paste has bed in, in ur gpu, the paste will be used at it full performance and you are gonna like the results.....lol im still waiting for my AS5 to bed in.

-about not being able to separated the card with the x2: i had this prob not long ago and the only thing you gotta do, is to run 3d mark 05 (or whatever you want) 3 times so your card will hot, after running 3d mark rapidly take the card off the mobo and take the screws out, and separate the HS (it takes a little force), other way is to blow hot air at the thermal pads, with like a hair dryer.

*one thing tough; the Accelero x2 shines for its quietness, and thats a big plus since i got my pc in my room*

the X2 is an excellent cooler (and yes i tried the vf900 it ran 5-8 degrees warmer plus it puts the hot air back in the case too). The stock cooler is good if you change the default fan speeds but the noise is just to much. the x2 running 100% keeps my xtx 42C-44C idle and 73C-76C under FULL load. the stock cooler running 100% kept it at 45C-48C idle and 69C-72C under FULL load but you would need ear plugs to be able to bear the noise. oh ya my mb and cpu temps went up by about 1C-2C with the X2 (i can live with that).
