no, slockets for Slot A dont' exist (Abit has stated that they are technically possible, but economically impractical). You can put Slot A Thunderbirds in, however, they aren't guaranteed to work. The reasoning is that the timing requirements for Thunderbirds and Athlon Classics are different, and the KX133 (the chipset on your KA7 100) is made for Classics, and does not officially support the newer thunderbirds.

The new thunderbirds are getting rarer and rarer to find in Slot form, as only a limted quantity were manufactured. The reason for that is that AMD made them ONLY for the big OEM's who still had AMD 750 chipset based motherboards, which are fully Thunderbird compliant.

Even if a thunderbird does work in your KA7 (a slot A thunderbird), many people have had difficulty overclocking them much over about 800mhz, due to the timing issue.

That cpu is good enough I say wait untill you can get something that will give you a pretty good increase in speed becomes available. Im still using a p3 450 and I can run anything I throw at my rig, your cpu is god enough(at least for noe).

Clawhammer is to be the first 64bit chip from AMD (x86-64), and is to come out in samples 4th quarter 2001, with production Q1 2002.

You're thinking of Palomino, which is a "mustang core" varient. This itself is based upon the original Athlon, but they've not yet disclosed exactly what the changes are. One thing for sure, is lowered power consumption, but we're not sure for the other items. Rumours have flown about its pipeline depth being increased to 12 stages from 10, but I doubt that. Another reumour is a revamped branch prediction unit, which would be rather nice considering its branch prediction is bested by most everything (including its predecessor the K6).

We'll just have to wait and see....in the next quarter of next year ^_^ That's when AMD plans on rolling out this new chip.
