just finished my new build, everything went smoothly for the most part.

my results are:

mobile 35w 2400+ @2326 Mhz>>>210x11=2.3Ghz @ 428 FSB
1.75 Vcore
36 C Idle
42 C full load

Abit NF7-S
Thermalright SLK-900A with 92mm Vantec Tornado
512meg PC-3500
passing prime95 no problem for several hours.

i'll try and go a little higher once i have it burned in well enough.

Good start!

The CPU that you are using will very easily top 2.6 Ghz. That leaves a lot of wirking room for OCing. As of this morning, My second setup in the sig below, is at 222 x 11, interface enabled, 2-2-2-11 RAM timings, 3:3 ratio. So far, it's stable in everything I can throw at it. The temps are high, but do-able. I am overnight P95 stable, UT2004 and IL-2 stable. With better cooling, I would see higher I think.

The NF7-s v2.0 has a funny reputation. The board was very popular for a while, and that meant that a wide vareity of people bought this board, to include those who thought that OC'ing was a plug and Play sport. When they couldn't figure it out, they blamed the board. Others got really good results, and swear by the board. I swear by this board.

Myself and a few friends are all in the "over 220Mhz FSB club" with our NF7-S v2.0 and Mobile Bartons. Not one of us has modded the CPU or the board. All this, and on 2 x 512mb RAM which is supposedly unstable in these boards.

Good Luck! Keep us posted as you go,

Mark

alright well i bumped my Vcore up to 1.8, now running 220x11, 2424mhz. Temps are 40 idle, bout 43 load. having a little trouble passing p95 at the moment...stable other than that though. i'll post back in a sec after i fiddle with the bios some more.

whats your Vcore btw?

My 2400+ 35 watt tops out around 2.5 in the 1.8v range. Higher voltages don't seem to help, maybe I need better cooling. I run it at 2.2/1.5v though for everyday use.

I'm in the market for a Mobile 2400+ but I'm wondering if I should get the 35w or 45w? The 45 watters are cheaper everywhere I've looked. Any difference in overclocking ability?

Hyperlite,

I'm at 1.9 vCore in BIOS to stabilize 222 x 11, tight timings. As of today, It is rock stable to include gaming and p95. I can post and run benches at 228 x 10.5, but temps are WAAAY too high for comfort.

If I was liquid or TEC cooled, it would likely be far lower vCore. I have no air-con in my office, and temps are around 85 F.

My mobile 2600+ runs at 2400 1.65 Vcore
to run at 2500 in stable mode I have to set higher voltage, I don't know if it's the right thing to do

Of course it's the right thing to do! If the CPU isn't stable, start by adding voltage to the core. If it's too hot, back off the Mhz, and/or vCore until it's in the 'Happy" range again.

I consider anything under 55 C. to be my happy range. Over that and I get nervous. Under 45 C. means to me that I'm not pushing the system hard enough.

I'm getting my Mobile Atlon XP 2600+ (45w, 1.45v) on Monday. I'll let y'all know how far I can overclock it to a maximum of 2.15 volts (i'm using a 5250 BTU air-conditioner to cool my computer and it workd better than water cooling and cheaper, too!):)

I got a 45W 2500+ today, I'll be installing it tomorrow and I'll be posting my results. I'm hoping to get 12x200 @ 1.6V or less. :)

I've got my new chip in. One thing bothers me: Unknown CPU Type - why doesn't my BIOS at least see it as an Athlon? Do I need to do something special to enable my BIOS to see it as an AMD chip?

WCPUID and AIDA32 see it as a Mobile AthlonXP but Windows does not. Am I going to miss any performance due a lack of optimization for my CPU?

It will say unknown CPU since it wasn't designed to recognize mobile processors. It's not a problem.
