I just put an athlon system together. with a thunderbird 800 chip and an asusk7v board. I installed 98 and 98 second edition on there, and it worked fine for about 8 hours, and as i added a new driver, it prom[pted me to restart so i did it... then next thing i nkow, after it hits the 98 startup screen, it went to a black screen with text talkin about how it couldnt find a file and if i erased it i need to reinstall it... it still starts up after that, but it just gives me problems when i install drivers and stuff. It keeps asking for my 98SE disk. even tho the drivers are for my nic card or video card. If u know whats goin on, can u help?

Besides that, i just got a copy of windows 2000 PRO from work.(one of the benefits to working for a computer place) but if i just installed 2Kpro, u think all my problems will fade away???

Yes and no. YMMV with 2k on an already unstable system. It really depends on why 98 is crashing, so if you can figure that one out first, you may have the answer to your own question. As far as your 98 problem goes, it BTSOOM. Have you tried reinstalling?

Not an answer to your question, but I am going through the same song and dance with 98SE.

I can get my modem up and running but whenever I put the NIC in I get Scan Registry BSOD cr*p and it takes me ½ an hour to get NIC out and the modem back. 98 keeps installing the modem without resources...

So if you figure it out - let me know!

sounds like a typical os load onto an overclocked machine. If thats the case, reinstall the os not overclocked.
