Is it possible to add FSx or even Silent Hunter 4 into your benchmarking efforts?
I'd love to see whether the Ultra is worth an upgrade later on if the (fps) gain is substantial (@19020x1200) and it'd justify the cost as well.
Nice work, btw!

Thats quite the difference. Nice benches there BFG.

16xS must be quite the eye candy on old games and some not so old games too.

Great comparison! Really shows the potential of new steppings with G80 cores!

wonderful! THere's no doubt about it -- I'm shooting for the GTX model instead of GTS in the near future

Nice and to the point and I love that you used high AA levels.

I hate seeing all the 300+ fps with 4xAA and 8xAF on some sites:frown:

I personally use 14xSSAA+16xHQAF on BF2 and all steam-engine games.

Those differences were always there even with the GTX due to the higher number of shaders and higher core clock speeds. With the Ultra its like comparing an overclocked GTX to a GTS, which is going to show even bigger performance gains.

But ya, nice results. :) I see BFG took the plunge, now you just need to OC to really let those components loose. :D As happy as I am with my GTS, I can definitely see the need to upgrade to something beefier running 1920 and the impending release of games like Crysis.

Does the GTS see any texture thrashing at those rezs/AA levels due to the difference in RAM (640/768)?

Very very nice job!

and your benches are especially useful as most of us who do benchmark rarely test beyond 16x12

Conclusion
The 8800 Ultra provides some substantial performance gains in modern games and it truly shines in older games when using 16xS, often meaning the difference between playable framerate and a slideshow.

curious ... please give us a 640GTS vs. Ultra price vs. performance comment. i am guessing if one runs at 16x12 or below, the GTS is the best bang-for-buck ... at higher resolutions, the GTX or Ultra is a "must", price be damned.

Finally, did you ever consider GTS sli - or didn't want to deal with noise/heat issues?

Nice upgrade. BFG can we foresee that this one will be short-lived and you'll take the plunge for 9800GTX before the year end :) hehe?

Did you every try OCing your GTS and testing it against the stock Ultra? I'd like to see how well an OCed GTS does against the Ultra if possible.

I'd also like to see if the GTS can make up for itself with some OCing.

Nice work but a little bore (yawned!).
Too many older games benchmarked.
I've always really wanted to see how bad the FSx bring the Ultra to its knee with all the eye candy turned on.

A perfect example why one should never consider GTS SLI over a single GTX/Ultra. (for performance) Nice job.

Nice review. Too bad some of the guys on that forum are too stupid to realize that they can't impress true graphics enthusiasts with their pseudo-knowledge.

People at ArsTechnica don't understand the term 'nvidia reference clocks'? Even akshayt wasn't as anal as some of those retards - and that dude is a moderator? :Disgust;

Good job BFG.

If I had to nitpick - maybe some of the more modern titles? Although I doubt it'd change the overall picture. Some of the titles are almost reminiscent. :D

As always, excellent benchmarks. I like how you do a mix of old and new games.
