Haha that's really weird that the game that gets the biggest increase going from the 7900gtx to the 8800gts is the ~10 year old Quake

Thanks for the testing. You can see where nvidia spent their efforts in driver optimization. (And where they didn't).

I dont think they even had the chance to do any optimizations.

Heh- probably right- they just said- "ok 128 unified stream processors and huge bus/bandwidth go kick some DX9 a$$!

Thanks for the comparisons. Although, no FEAR: Extraction Point? :(

Still, thanks for the numbers.

No CSAA? :p
All of it was 4xMSAA. ;)

You should overclock it. I know you'll probably never do it, but you should.
You'll get close to GTX speeds (speed of the card, not clock speed)

Nice review though.
I like it. Simple and to the point.

Extraction Point's benchmark is the same as Fear's so it shows the same scores. To get anything meaningful out of Extraction Point you need to use Fraps but I try to avoid using it whenever possible. :)

Yup - not possible on the 7900 GTX. ;)

Nice, is it hard to make them? I'd like to do it also but I'm not a programmer. I've only done some basic programming. And guides to do it?

Games usually have a command to start and stop the recording. You type the command into the console, run and and do your stuff that you want to record, then type the command to stop in the console.

Extraction Point's benchmark is the same as Fear's so it shows the same scores.
But isn't Extraction Point more graphically demanding? I thought you said that it is more graphic intensive and generally got lower frames than normal FEAR.

No and no programming is required BUT every game is different so it requires research how to expose their benchmarking facilities. Also some games have little quirks that require a little voodoo to work around in order to get predictable results.

Correct, the new maps in Extraction Point are much more demanding but the benchmark itself is exactly the same as the one from the original game so the results are identical.

Extraction Point's code was tweaked, giving it more FPS...at I get more with my 7900GT roughly 8-10fps more

Nice work. I was expecting at least 50% improvement, but maybe it's the CPU? We are thinking of going from the 7900GTX to a 8800 series for work, but it's hard to tell how games translate to opengl based volume rendering. I'm not sure what our bottleneck is....

I'm not seeing that - benchmark runs are identical while actual gameplay is much harder on the GPU than the original Fear.

lol Descent 3, Quake, Unreal. Keep up the good work man!
Preach on brutha, preach on. :p

Those old games will never die.
