I was using the LinkSys PCMCIA Wireless NIC. The card worked great, but a lot of the card stuck out from the PCMCIA slot (maybe to increase antenna range). I accidentally stepped on this and it broke off.

I need a 802.11b PCMCIA NIC that has little or NO material that extends beyond the PCMCIA slot.

It also needs to work in Linux. If you arent sure about the OS support, but you know of a card that sits flush with the PCMCIA slot, let me know and I will research linux support for it.

Don't suppose you have a mini-PCI slot on your laptop. Those are the greatest for wireless cards. There's nothing sticking out of the laptop and they utilize the built in antenna (sp?).

Most of the others are going to stick out because of the card's built in antenna.

That's one of the best things about the Airport on my iBook - no atenna sticking out.

Nope..no mini-PCI slot. My laptop is a Compaq Armada M700.

I think it's more vaporware than anything but there was a stubless Orinoco model mentioned in one of their older brochures. From the datasheet, it looked pretty nice: "equivalent" antennae size as a stubbed model while fitting completely within the PCMCIA slot housing, and came in silver and gold flavors.

I never found it being sold and that brochure was the only place I ever saw it mentioned. I guess it would've been a nice model to put out... :(

edit: Hehe, that's the one I'm talking about polm. :) Oops, I guess it was Agere.

I think you are talking about the AGERE Orinoco that I posted right before yours. Maybe ?

I have .11b USB NICs running on two computers in my house. They're both MS-base OS's, though. They seem to run fine.
