OK, I realize that software companies are writing games that will look good with next generation hardware. But I think it is absolutley ridiculus that I can barely run the "Crysis" demo with my $4000 computer!!!

I have a Q6600 OC to 3.4ghz, 8800GTX, 2gb PC6400 ram OC to 1000, and if I put the game on optimal settings I get an average of 16 FPS in fraps?? WTH is that??

If I turn the settings down to medium, my FPS will average 35 FPS

What gives? Im not gonna go out and spend $2,000 on Dual 8800 Ultra and a Quad Extreme just so I can run this game at optinmal settings.

And although I know a lot of gamers are Adults with jobs, how in the hell is a 14 year old kid who has a $700 HP suppose to play this game?

Aere the software companies getting WAY ahead of themselves? Do they think we can all afford a $1000 video card?

Are they going to destroy PC gaming by creating games people can't even afford to play?

Im sorry if I put this post in the wrong area, but I sure would like some feedback.

Thanks

You paid $4K for Q6600, 800GTX and 2GB of memory? I feel bad for you, here, have some cookies...

No, but you're $4000 computer is worth about.....$2000 now. :p

Edit: and how the heck did you spend that much on a PC without SLI and 4GB+ of RAM? I could buy a watercooled alienware rig with dual 8800 Ultras and an extreme edition chip for less than that.

Welcome to PC gaming. Video cards are the least lasting component.

What gives? Im not gonna go out and spend $2,000 on Dual 8800 Ultra and a Quad Extreme just so I can run this game at optinmal settings.

I don't think Crysis is targeted for 14 year olds anyways. Look at Farcry, it was very demanding when it was released and it did fine financially.

Aere the software companies getting WAY ahead of themselves? Do they think we can all afford a $1000 video card?

Some can afford. New cards don't cost $1000, more like $500-$600 range. Besides, you don't need the greatest and the latest to enjoy games. Crysis is just ONE game.

Are they going to destroy PC gaming by creating games people can't even afford to play?

It's always been like this, and no, one game isn't going to "destroy" PC gaming. Please.

Switch from vista to xp and do the .cfg mod, you'll get much better performance. Also, why would you pay $4k for that?!? I could probably build one for <$1500.

what resolution are you trying to play crysis at?
PC gaming is expensive. one of the things that makes it way to expensive is that GTX you have in your system. Graphics cards should not cost as much as a car. its insane.
the kid with the $700 HP goes out and buys a 8800GT that is what he does. Thank God that this GFX card came out.
I dont think they are destroying PC gaming, pushing it to the very limit yeah but destroying it, no way. People will always find away to either buy the hardware they need to play the game that they want or they will have to exercise a little patience and wait for the hardware to drop in price or in the 8800GT case wait for something to show up that rocks the market.

Kids do not buy a 8800gt. It's still $250. Kids go out and buy a 8600gt or 1950pro.

It seems to me that there is no pleasing the enthusiast crowd... If a dev showcases a game at say E3 and then tunes the graphics down to make their game run on mainstream hardware, they get accused of being lazy for giving us a dumbed down experience. If they give it to us in its full glory, and it just happens to bring your high end rig to its knees, then they are wrong for taking the games away from the common man... c'mon... you can't have it both ways.

Kid's either get their parents to buy them the GT or stick with their integrated GMA950 video that came with their Dell that doesn't have a PCI-E slot anyway. :p

It's not Crytek's fault for releasing the best-looking game to this moment. It's Nvidia's fault for not releasing a refresh to the 8800gtx 1 year after it's launch.

Are you some sort of fud rep for Nintendo or something? Why did I just pick Nintendo? I have no clue. I see these kinds of posts ALLLLL over the net since the Crysis Demo was released. Maybe I'm a conspiracy theorist, tin foil hat wearing person who is looking to deep into this, but seriously. Is it a coincidence that I have seen a post EXACTLY like this one, on at least 5 other forums I frequent (EVGA forums, Hard Forums, I think VR-zone or OC forums) I can't even remember all the places but:

This guy has 2 posts not, this was probably his first, and its all complete misinformation. $1000 vid card? $4000 computer? Alienware maybe if you build it the very day C2D was released and then added a $1000 sound card or something.

Seriously, all I see in these posts is people trying to actually help the PC gaming market die, with the Wii and PS3 and 360 people are putting more cred into such claims as they have in the past and its disturbing really. PC gaming isn't going anywhere, and this FUD crap isn't going to sell more Wii's and convert PC Gamers.

Any way. On to a real post now

I'm not the type that spends all my money on PC games either. Thats why I WAIT sometimes to play videogames. I haven't even downloaded the Demo yet. Maybe I'm really patient but I have plenty of other games to play. And chances are I'll be buying an 8800GT when it gets down around $200 and then I will play Crysis. And you know what, a year later or maybe two I'll have a new vid card and I'll play Crysis again and marvel at how good it looks. I did this with Far Cry, hell I still have Far Cry installed on my computer with all the patches and it still looks and plays stuningly.

Oh and I'll add, Oblivion demolished my computer too and I simply waited to play it. Sure I could of played it at 15 fps but I just felt I could wait a little longer. I do this with a lot of games when they first come out. You don't have to play Crysis right away, and if you do then you can spend more money and get the 8800GTS V2 that will be released coinciding with the Crysis release. Its your choice no matter how much you blame everyone else

Nice First post BTW

Oh and one more thought on this. You can save money two fold when waiting as I explained. On the hardware you run the game on, and the game itself. I never pay $50 for a game, or even $40. I'll wait until Crysis is discounted as well and save a bit of green there too. If you pace yourself as a gamer, and stay always one step behind the trends, its like you are still in sync with timeframes any way since your still playing whatever game came out before Crysis any way.

Try the Orange Box if Crysis kills your comp. Its flipping awesome and well worth the money. I got mine for free so that was even better

bro, relax, its EA...

plunk 49 bucks on the orange box, its the best money you can spend. leave crysis on the shelf until EA has released all the patches needed to fulfill at least half of the things they promised.

Obvious. Mommy and daddy bought it for him and he has it BAD compared to people, say, that are in Darfur right now, yes?

BTW, you paid $600 for a GTX? You could've gotten an Ultra. You, sir, got ripped off.

Cry some more please. Its not our fault you didn't bother researching any of the numerous benchmarks based around the demo of a next-gen game(IE: GTX's are not next-gen, yes I said it, but they were a year ago) also whoever the fuck sold you your 4 grand pc ripped you off. Also next gen games are not to be played on budget computers(IE: Dell/HP/Others).

I'd say wait for the actual game to hit and allow the drivers to mature a tad more -then see where you stand performance wise. Crysis demo crashes every other time I load it in Vista 64 with the 169.01 drivers so they've still got some bugs to work out.

This is exactly why I love my Xbox 360.

I've grown tired of spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars a year in order to play $50 games.

If I know a game will run nicely on my PC, then I buy it for the PC, if there is any doubt, I buy it for Xbox 360.

I've arrived at the point in my gaming career that if a game life Crysis comes along that runs 15 fps at 1024x768 on my rig, then I just dont play it. There are plenty of other games that will occupy my time and wont cost $500 to play.

Well, it looks like everyone can't be pleased. Six months ago, folks were complaining that software didn't exist to really "push" their hardware that they paid top dollar for, to the limits. "All that wasted power." What good is all this power if we can't use it?" etc. etc.

Sounds like a Sony rep, and not a Nintendo rep like you originally thought.

I remember seeing threads on other forums like that. Now there is a game that can crush their hardware and they are complaining. I remember similar comments like that around the FEAR and oblivion launches too.

He must have purchased it from Best Buy. They love raping people in the ass.

I myself am glad that I have waited. I'll run on all medium with my Core 2 Duo 6400 @ 3.2GHz and X1900XT until there's a video card from ATi or nVIDIA that destroys the 8800 series.

It's just the way it is and always has been. For as long as I can remember (since computers have been around), even the fastest video cards, CPUs and whatnot are rarely "fast enough" to run the latest games at the highest resolutions and settings. Oh you might get close for awhile but soon you're out of date and facing another upgrade depending on your performance standards. It's all about making money. The game companies and hardware companies are in bed together and will push the envelope and pace just enough to make as much money as possible without driving everyone away to consoles or pricing themselves out of business. Unfortunately as someone already mentioned, PC gaming isn't cheap, at least on the high-end. There is no future-proof.
