I've been using win2k for the past 2 years, and it connected at 56k speeds with DEFAULT settings, default 56k driver that ships with win2k and default port settings, no init string. nothing. THis is with a SupraExpress external Serial modem.

But ever since i switched to xp a week ago, i've only been able to connect at 14.4!!, argg wtf. again, This is also with default settings, default driver, same phone number. I tried using hte modem to detect line noise, but there was none. tried downloading a win2k driver but it won't let me install it, saying its older than the current driver.

I also tried plugging the modem into my laptop with winxp, and exact same thing. what gives??

any help appreciated!!!! thanks all

*update - managed to install the win2k drivers, still connects at 14.4, bandwidth test suggest 6.8Kbps

Default driver?

Do you mean the default WinXP driver - 56k Data Fax Modem PnP version 5.1.2600.0 (xpclient.010817-1148). This is what XP decided to install for my external Diamond SupraExpress 56e PRO (connected on COM1). I connect at 44k+ every time.

Sometimes Windows drivers are actually OK!
