My 360 got RRoDeath- Best buy Product replacement plan any good?

My 11 mo 360 just got the RRoD, I bought a best buy Product Replacement Plan w/ it at the time (before MS extended the warr... ) Has anyone else used the service and did they have any trouble w/ it? Is the warr a better way to go?

Also, how to save all your stuff? I asked the rep and he said just to keep the HDD. BB is supposed to send a $400 gift card so I can go buy a new one. If I buy an elite, is there a way to transfer all my stuff? Has the Elite or recent batched proved more reliable or quieter? (<--sry for these ?'s, haven't followed this in a long time)

if you keep the hard drive and buy and elite. I believe you can call microsoft support and ask for HDD transfer cable that they should provide for free.

Keep the S/N from the old console though. You're only eligable if you had a core/premium and then bought an elite. To prove that they ask for both S/N's.

yes, the all new consoles ( if we are considering the upcoming Arcade) now carry the motherboard from the elite. If i were you, i would wait another two weeks until Falcon (65nm processor) gets into better circulation. when you go to buy your new 360, check a sticker on the box for a Lot Number. you will want a console with lot number 735 or later, from what i have heard.

Awesome guys, good info! That's why I know I can always rely on AT 🙂

It will be a few weeks before I get a new one. I knew that a new processor was coming out, but I hadn't heard anything recently (I wasn't planning this) so wasn't sure if they were coming out soon. Looks like this RRoD may actually work out pretty well then, I'll be able to upgrade at a minimal cost. I guess it balances out having a console that burns out before a year even tho it was babied, and has been having read errors for months. Hopefully the next one proves better. Q is tho, does the PRP from BB still in effect for another year? hmmm

I had to replace mine w/ my best buy replacement plan, here's how it went.

Take 360 in box to the store. They took it out and brought me a new one off the shelf. They switched hard drives for me. Then, they stamped the new receipt on the replacement plan, so if this one fails I can get another. It was extremely quick. I'm sure you could probably get the new box of your choosing if you just brought it up with you. I took mine in before the HDMI ones were out.
