I have a 250 gb seagate hard drive. When i tried to merge c and d partition, first i deleted d partition. Then i did something wrong so it is not formatting again because of low space. It was 28 gb drive. Using diskpart,a dos based program

First, I can't tell exactly what you are trying to do or what you've done. Did you already delete an extended partition? Or did you delete a logical partition? It'd help if you could add some more detail about exactly what you've done and what you are wanting to do.

I haven't dealt with extended partitions in years. But I don't think you can format an extended partition. Once an extended partition is created, you can create logical drives inside it, which you can format.

Also, I doubt you can merge space from a deleted logical drive into a primary partition. You'd probably have to delete all the logical drives in the extended partition and then delete the extended partition. At that point you can likely merge the space into a primary partition that's (as displayed in Disk Management) contiguous to and on the left side of the now-deleted extended partition.
