1) It's a K7S5A, expect problems
2) Sure you don'thave the 333mhz version (333/2 = 166)

I made sure to get the 266Mhz version, but this is the first real problem I've had with the K7S5A it's been real good to me. :)

The multipiler is set at 6x but I can't adjust it, the only thing I can adjust is the cpu/dram freq.

I sent an email to ECS's tech support and this is what I got back:

"Dear Valued Customer:

Try to clear the CMOS battery.

If it's still the same, you may need to replace the BIOS chip on your motherboard.

Thank you for using ECS products"

So I tried the battery, which I knew wouldn't do crap, but could they be right about replaceing the BIOS chip. They are really simple to pull out and put back in.

what speed is it running? there is no real 6x 2400+, I assume its running 2 Ghz. try finding "crystal CPUID" and see what it says it usually tells you what it is and what your running at. sounds like your overclocking a 1900+?
" BTW, what does it say in the black rectangular area on the CPU." what does it say in there?

Sorry I should update my sig. My new CPU is an Athlon 2600+ and it's the 266 FSB version. And yes it is showing up as 2.0GHz. In the little black box is says something like AX2600M... I can't remember all of it. If I take the processer and put it in my dad's mobo it comes up just fine.

Sounds to me You've got a Mobile Athlon-XP 2600+.It runs at 266MHz FSB and has unlocked CPU Multiplier, 2000MHz, 512KB cache. What a shame to put this chip on this mobo.

Did you try clearing yor CMOS or load BIOSdefaults? Check if the mobo supports mobile CPU's.

Does the board have the latest BIOS in it (August 2003)? No need to replace the chip, just flash an update into it.

Yea, I've got the most recent BIOS update. I even got the update that specifically adds support for the 2400+ and the 2600+, but no dice, so I just got the most recent one but that didn't help.

I did get a program called cpuid and it told me that my multiplier was at 15x it needs to be at 16 to get the full 2.133Ghz out of the cpu. Is there any program that I can run that will change that?

I think I got it fixed. I downloaded a OCbios from honeyx or somthing like that. That let me set my cpu clock speed to 143 which get the mobo to dectect it as a 2600+ @2.133ghz. There isn't anything wrong with running it like that is there. My cpy temp has stayed around 44* so i think im alright.

Looks like it might be slightly over-clocked. A 2800+ Barton runs at 2.08 GHz at normal. If you're getting 2.133 out of a 2600+; I would bet that OC Bios means it is OC'd. Temp looks okay, so probably okay to leave it running that way.

Look, you're not going to get useful answers if you're badmouthing just because "everyone does".

This board is the best selling mainboard EVER, with a few dozen million units out there. It's far from being crap.

Besides, I've run Athlon XP 2600/133 on this mainboard model, and had no problems in doing so. Have you checked yet whether you've got the correct model of CPU yet?

Huh, I wasn't trying to badmouth it. I just know there are better ones out there. And I posted a useful site to help other people with various problems on this mobo.
