Picked up the Microcenter 2500K Asus P8P67 Pro combo with 8gb's of Corsair Vengence ram last week and just rebuilt my system a couple of days ago :)

Rebuilding the system was kinda pain in the arse as I'm under water. I decided I'd do some wire sleeving and replace my upper fan with a pair of 120's while I was in there anyways!

My goal is gonna sound funny but it's to get the best overclock while keeping all energy savings functions as well as S3 sleep enabled.

Temps....What temps these babies run very cool. At 5ghz the hottest core hovers just below 70*C

This is what I've gotten to which seems pretty good so far :)

From this point on I had to follow the guide at the bottom of this post which seems to kill the S3 sleep function. I'm happy with 4.7ghz anyways. Pretty much just wanted to see what my chip was capable of before I invested alot of time in stability testing it. I don't think the voltage jump from 4.7ghz >>> 4.8ghz and beyond is worth the performance gains anyways!

I did try higher....Stable

And higher....Stable

Sandybridge overclocking is kinda strange and the P8P67 Pro bios is kinda cool but has alot of stuff to mess around with. I didn't have to change much to get to 4.7ghz :D

Beyond 4.7ghz I had to use the following guide which seemed to do the trick.

See if you can get those 70' c to 60' c on load.

That's at 5ghz! Fully loaded running Intel Burn Test....What would you suggest? Ice water?

Load temps at 4.7ghz hover just below 60*C on the hottest core fully loaded with Intel Burn Test.

Thanks for the pics too.

Remember Intel specification recommendation for temps is
50's c and 60's c I would watch it if it goes to 70's or even higher or it will blow up. jk just a restart.. hehehe thx

IMO, the biggest feature of SB is Speedstep being fully functional along with OC and overvolting. The idling power draw is so low that nobody should disable it.

Small FFT imo. :p

Clocks and temps look good. My 2600k at 5ghz, well....the temps get scary. Haha :)

Prime95 torture test small fft's to test is what you mean?

I hate prime95 as it's so boring and doesn't even give me some kinda score I can compare to others :D

But I did read that prime95 is best for testing sandy bridge chips currently. My temps did climb with prime95 as with the prolonged load my water temp did increase about 5*C which made my cores also jump about the same.

Currently running prime and the nice thing about it is I don't even know it's running as it doesn't seem to effect the system at all. Guess I got some power to spare!

I doubt it's gonna crash so I'm not sure how much longer I'll let it run as it seems like a waste of electricity.

This has been observed ever since the first dual cores came out, far as I remember. I'm not taking away anything from your awesome rig, as it is indeed filled with sheer awesomeness @ 4.7GHz. But your observation has more to do with Prime95 running at a far lower priority than everything else.
