My $250 Giant Simple Cruiser got stolen @ UCSB. I don't want this to happen again.

I had a kryptonite lock, but it proved to be useless because the thief easily broke open my lock in a 15 minute time span i was gone away from my bike.

I'm soo pissed..... i just bought this bike too.........

Do you guys have any recommendations for a bike lock that is better built and won't crack open as easily?

I would never ride a bike I cared about on campus.

My bike stays in my bedroom, or in an enclosed bike locker at work.

No locks for my i-Drive.

of course nothing is gonna stop it, but it will delay the time it takes to break open the lock if you get a better built lock.

Anybody can break open any lock depending on how much they want it.

Best to get a $20 rusted junker bike from a thrift shop and use that if you have to lock it up in public. Even so, some loser will eventually steal that too.

you guys aren't reallyhelping me... -.-

I'm really pissed off about this... can't you guys recommend me a decent locK???

You may be able to be reimbursed by the company that manufactured your lock.

If someone brings a bolt cutter, there isn't a damn thing you can do to stop them.

unless you want to shell out 100$ for the NYC chainlock from Kryptonite--which will only delay the inevitable--the best protection is a cautious owner. you can try doing double locks (cable & u-lock) but, like the bikeshop guy told me, they only keep honest people honest.

What Kryptonite model lock did you get? Did you fill in the lock warrenty so you can get insurance on the bike? Kryptonite has locks that are warrentied in New York now. Get one of two of those.

Post pics of the lock.

Yeah, a friend of mine just did double locks. He figured it might slow the thief down enough that some passerby might put a stop to it. Or the thief will go to a bike that's easier to steal.

Why don't they might a U-lock with a small wire going through the bar... and if the wire gets cut, it triggers an alarm. I've seen personal alarms which were loud as hell (hell, even a smoke alarm is loud enough), certainly loud enough to attract attention. Of course this would be battery-powered, but i can't really see it using a lot of power unless it gets triggered a lot.

New York Fahgettaboudit - Ultimate Chain

New York 3000 - Best bolt lock

These will actually confuse criminals long enough to possibly discourage them.

Any other lock all it takes is a good thick pipe or bolt cutters. They're so worthless all they do is hold the thief up for the 5 seconds it takes to break the lock.
I have an Evolution 2000 myself. It's supposed to be a good lock but it's worthless against a good thick pipe. I will not let my bike out of my site for more than 5 seconds.

what happens when a car alarm goes off nowadays? everyone ignores it.

according to the masterlock sponsored hulk free comic book i got the other day, use a masterlock, they know have bike locks that have no pivot points and look like handcuffs...
