my 250 GB western digital HD appears dead after 5 months....

Thanks for the news. I happen to have a 250GB WD too. :Q

Now thinking of getting a large-capacity Seagate to insure my data up the a$$.

Been using WD for many years and have only had a problem with the 1st gen raptors (heat issue), but other than that they have been great. Just bad luck I guess.

Got a 160GB WD SATA drive running just fine for over 4.5 months now. hope it lasts as long as my old Seagate IDE (5 years of long service)...

I have only used WD drives and never had anyone of them fail on me. Have the 200 GB one for 1 year now and working as solid as ever. Had 3x60 GB WD drives for last 3-4 yeara and still going strong. Personally, I love WD drives.
