My $25 dollar speaker purchase. Rate my purchase.

Bought these a while ago on Craigslist and decided to clean them up a bit today. They looked in bad shape but I knew I could fix it up. Lady was moving and needed to get rid of it. My gain. Sounds incredible with the 1990s Onkyo receiver I picked up for an additional $20 from another guy on Craigslist.

Using a $5 Bluetooth Aux adapter from Amazon with my 6s. 🙂

Only thing is the cloth only on grille covers are pretty ripped and I am trying to figure out where to get new cloth. Any ideas?

Took about 2 hours of scrubbing with a towel, and rubbed the wood with a blunted pencil to get all the marks out of both speakers. I am very happy with the results. Finished up with furniture polish. They are almost mirror like now.

Anyway here are some pics. Thoughts on my purchase?

Looks pretty damned nice buy for a good old Polk set for 25$

I'd say 9.9/10 if they operate like they look.

Hard to go wrong there, only way to get better would be free.

Not sure I'd even bother with grill covers on those these days, I leave them off on a few of mine even if I do have them. I just use a newer HTPC 7.1 receiver these days I guess, but still use a lot of older speakers I've collected over time.

Someday, they would even turn into kick butt rear speakers, nice grab there. I'd love to have them for that myself.

Um...no, these probably retailed for several hundred for the set, OP got a great deal.

yep. nice job, OP!

I have some polk monitor 70 II's sitting at my dad's house. i wish i had them with me so i could watch movies properly 🙁

Nice speakers.

Got a set of Logitech Z5300's myself for my desktop. They get pretty loud and the bass is pretty good. In fact, the sub is under my desk near my right leg and I can feel the air hit my leg. Pretty neat when I'm in a FPS.

I think I screwed up the front speakers though because they sound like shit now. Need to buy replacements on ebay. I guess I shouldn't have them cranked up all the time. :\

Beautiful job on the cleanup. Looks like they just came out of the box! The furniture polish didn't wipe the pencil off?

Nice score...I like me some Polks. I have a pair of SDA 2b's(I scroed them for $40 on CL myself) in my bedroom, they never fail to impress me.

JC, I have you covered. I also have the 5300, and my two back speakers quit working. Only .. it isn't the speakers that died, it appears to be both rear audio jacks - plugging the rears into the fronts to test this and they play just fine. Since I have not had my true 5.1 set up in a long time, they have next to no hours on them as well. PM me and I'll make you a good deal. I have no interest in cracking open the sub to try and fix them either.

Assuming they are healthy 10/10. $25 for those is a steal.

I have an Onkyo Receiver and an older set of mid height Polks (2x6.5, 4, 1). Sounds amazing and feel no need to upgrade.
