I ended up ordering the 21.5" iMac from Amazon.

With my Prime shipping, their return policy, and no tax, it was the best all around deal factoring in delivery time.

I'm really excited to get it and even more so just to have a desktop at home again.

It's been about 2 weeks now that I haven't had a desktop at home that acts as my always on sFTP and file/media server.

Only downside of ordering it from Amazon vs Apple directly is I couldn't pick a Magic Touchpad over the Magic Mouse. I actually already have both of them but really don't care for the Magic Mouse at all.

Anyway, I'm really excited and can't wait to get home and play with it tonight!

With Lion, you'll have to install your own FTP server. There is no longer a built-in server.

There still is sFTP. If you can SSH you can sFTP.

I have lion on my MBA and had it on my 2009 Mini that I sold and confirmed that to be the case.

I don't do standard FTP due to lack of security and ease of hacking.

Congrats on your purchase, but the 27" model is much better bang-for-buck. :/

The display on that one is amazing.

Would if I could but it'd of been $300 more roughly.

Not something I'd be able to swing anytime soon.

I did spend some time with both sizes side by side at the store prior to buying and for me, the 21.5" is still damn nice and fits my needs.

21 is way too small. they dont make 25?

21.5" at 1920*1080 is a good size, I have one on my desk at home and at work, and I always get surprised at how large it feels. The 27" though... good, that thing is a monster.

I think that Apple likes to have a certain level of DPI in their systems, which is why they went with a 21" 1080p screen instead of a 23+ sized one.

Got it all set up last night but couldn't get my serial number to work for my iMac and online chat support wasn't able to figure it out. Have a ticket/case in with apple support but nothing so far.

At any rate, I didn't feel like waiting a day or more to get my lion upgrade so just used the one I had for the mini I sold until they get it figured out.

I could register the iMac fine. It was just this lion upgrade form that wasn't wanting to work.

Was so nice to be able to sftp and gotomypc back into it from work this morning but now it's inaccessible and has been for a few hours.

I'm thinking my power is out at my house once again. I've never lived anywhere else in the 19 times I've moved in my life that loses power as much as this neighborhood. It's a beautiful bright sunny crisp fall day and yet the power (I'm pretty sure) is out again. Nearly a weekly occurrence now.

Enough ranting....

As for the screen size, of course I'd of preferred the larger screen but this honestly "feels" big enough for me and just fits under the upper shelf on my desk (Ikea Jerker FWIW).

Money is a factor and I'm ok not parting with a few hundred more to get the 27". Even more so as that'd of required me to wait until at least next month to save up that extra amount. I don't do anything purchase wise that doesn't fit into my budget and only buy with cash in hand (in bank account with check card at least).

Maybe in 3 or 4 years when I'm ready to replace this one I'll get the 27" or equivelant then.
