First race was Feb 25th, my last will be Oct 1. How's that for a longass season? :p

They payout for the Sunday finale is (by amateur standards) nuts. Even 30th place gets $100. :Q

Saturday

*circuit race NE of Atlanta. 2.5km circuit w/four corners and a couple very short climbs. Since there's so much money on the line tomorrow there were a bunch of pro teams there. I followed one move off the front behind a Health Net guy and a guy from Priority Health and just about upchucked my lungs trying to stay with them.

Finished somewhere around 20-25 (I didn't check since the money only went 10 deep). Hard race, but I was happy to be able to mix it up with the big boys rather than just hanging on for dear life. :)

Tomorrow is going to be fscking brutal. 60 laps on a 1km circuit with two hairy corners and a nice big hill every lap. All the money means guys are going to be attacking pretty much every single lap.

Yeah, I'll take a week or so completely off the bike and then start my offseason training. I probably spend more total time on the bike in the winter than I do during the race season.

I was sitting like 12th or something in the Cat3's (I missed a bunch of the races), but you lose half your points when you upgrade so I'm way down the list in the Pro/1/2 standings.

$100 for 30th? Nice! The best road races around here, which are really circuit races with a long circuit, the Fall/Spring Bear Mountain Classics barely offer that much for first place!

How's (racing) life been since the upgrade to Cat 2?

It's pretty damn fast. I can hang, but I'm going to have to have a very focused program over the winter if I want to be competitive next year.

Thats pretty cool that you can hang with those big teams.
Edit. What do you do for your winter training? Do you do a lot of stuff off the bike too?

I mostly do a ridiculous amount of miles. I'm planning to do some gym time (free weights) and core work this winter as well. Typically, I do 15-20 hours per week on the bike.

It's all over now. I ended up doing course marshall work all day Sunday keeping drunk people from wandering out into the race course.

Then I drank copious amounts of beer with my teammates. :D
