Didn't you just buy a ST50? Did you move into a new house or something?

yah i moved in the beginning of september.

the ST50 is for the room that is in the pic w/the receiver. the projector is down in the basement. right now the basement is totally empty, but tonight i plan on bringing my ps3 down there and hooking up the projector and seeing what it can do. i'm just going to project onto a blank wall to figure out exactly what size i want my screen to be.

while excellent suggestions im not sure he has the budget.

subs are the one thing i know absolutely nothing about or where to really demo them, and HOW to actually demo them. i'm primarily wanting this whole setup for movies/gaming, and music secondary.

i got the projector setup in my basement last night where i'm going to eventually have it mounted to check out the screen size and stuff. here are a few pics:

in that pic it is probably like 126" or so. i think i'm going to go with 120" though.

the one thing i did not realize is just HOW much the white paint/floor really reflects the light. i'm definitely going to be painting parts of my basement to reduce that.

you basically have to simply listen to the same content on the sube at a consistent volume to just see how you like them. however once you get to a certain point they start sounding the same.

any of the top subs from the ID guys will work with pretty much any system, i would not buy a sub that is sold by a shop, generally too expensive and underperform.
(see Deftec Supercube)

Id see if you can find some to demo from the AVS link i posted in your other thread but if i were you the top guys from Rytnik, HSU, PSA and SVS should be on your short list, and if you have the budget the JRT Captivator and the Seaton Submersive are considered to be the 2 best subs out there.

I know its over your budget but 3 JTR T8s as LCR and 2 Single 8s for surrounds and a Captivator is a flat out amazing setup – its actually what I plan on building if things go right next year

what are the costs of those? i was just googling and it's kind of tough to find prices for those things, i'm guessing they don't do online sales, only in stores?

i may be going somewhere on saturday, if i have time, to demo some speakers at a local store where they supposedly have some sound rooms setup.

SVS - prob the PB12 or above 1200+
http://www.svsound.com/

PSA - Power Sound Audio - actually started by the 1 of the guys who origionally started SVS - 750-1300 depending on model, ive heard the XS15, people who have the XV30 really like it
http://www.powersoundaudio.com/

Rythmik - FV15/HP - might be one of the best for cost/prefoormance ~1200
http://www.rythmikaudio.com/

HSU - VTF-15 - ~1000
http://www.hsuresearch.com/

JTR - T8s are 1200 each S8s are 900 and the subs range from 1900-3k - you can get passive subs as well if you want to use your own amp for 1200
http://jtrspeakers.com/

Seaton - SubMs are 2200-2600 the F2 and the HP preform exactly the same, they are just a different size/layout
http://www.seatonsound.net/

JTR and Seaton really have poor websites but you can call and talk to Jeff (JTR) and Mark (seaton) the owners of each and talk for houre about what you want and your needs. Ive met both of them and they are great guys, who make simply amazing speakers/subs

ah okay thanks, yea i should have been more explicit about the ones i meant i couldn't find on the web, which were the last 2 you mentioned (JTR and Seaton) because their websites are kinda flaky and i didn't see any resellers.

i'll look into all of those a bit more though. none of those are totally out of my budget (well except probably $3k for a sub).

JTR lists them on the site, residential drop down and then to whatever speaker you want - specs and proce are there

Seatons are on the forum
http://www.seaton-sound-forum.com/post/Product-Listing-Availability-Status-and-Pricing-5999687

pretty sure Jeff said they were working on a new website a few weeks ago

cool man thanks for the links.

Wow how is the projector? Do want!

it's cool so far but i now need a screen and will have to find time to paint the wall behind it to get it darker because the light reflecting really was bad on some scenes. lit up the whole room. i also don't know if the light reflecting was higher because i wasn't using a screen and was rather just projecting onto the yellow painted wall.
