Well, i've had this car for about 4 years now and really love it.. but it had high mileage when i purchased it.. and i've been putting a lot of miles on it every year. My dad just mentioned to me that i should think about selling it or trading it in before the mileage gets too high.

What are your oppinions and advice on this? Should i get rid of it or keep it for another few years? I just don't want to have to deal with putting in a new transmission or being afraid of not being able to sell it in a couple years. I could also use the Tax Writeoffs, since i dont own a house yet...

Sell it, get a new car, and hook yourself up with some cheap insurance! Speaking of which, sorry I never got back to you. I have been way busy and yes, I am probably getting screwed by 21st.

My 1990 POS Honda accord with a front quarter panel that couldn't have more rust if the laws of chemistry were changed bu god, that has suspension that has had more improper rear-entry action than an ugly paper-bag type hooker, that has an engine that burns more oil per day than the Valdez jizzed all over Alaska in a month, and that has 207 thousand miles, is for sale...

How much do you figure I'll get for it?:p

145,000 is considered high mileage?!

My old Accord has 230K+ and is just starting to get broken in. Engine runs like new, reliable as all get-out. I put a new trans in it(4th and 5th gears were toast, junkyard trans) june of last year, and promptly drove it 3,200 miles (two-way trip from WV to TX and back) leaking oil the whole way. Still runs beautifully, and I hope to get another 230,000 miles out of her. :D

Goose, if that were an 88 with a five-speed, I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

145k is only moderate miles for a Japanese car. Come around 200k and then we call it high mileage.

I had to replace it because the guy I bought it from toasted it before I got it. It had already been replaced once, because he toasted that one, too, and the replacement was a lousy junkyard trans. I only got the car for $300 though, and an extra $50 for the new trans from a friend. Took a chiltons manual, couple cases of beer, lots of cussing and a weekend to put it in.

What year is your 'Teg?

Run it to the ground unless you have plans to purchase another vehicle. Why deal with payments (assuming you'll finance another vehicle) when you don't have to. Knowing the car is fully paid for and you only have to deal with the occasional maintainece is god send.

Oh how I wish my car was paid off. I don't look forward to buying another vehicle again if it has to be financed. Not fun.

Integras are pretty popular stolen vehicles. Wait til someone steals and trashes it or you get into a horrific accident so you can write it off, lol.

Mileage is already too high. Just run it into the ground, any amount you put into it will be far less than a new car payment.

Well, i'm thinking about leasing a car.. not buying one. Right now my loan is about $100 a month for another year until the car gets paid off. If i lease a car for about $200, that isn't much more.

runs like new and leaking oil the whole way are two descriptions that do not go together...

Eh....that's not a good idea imo. I'd rather own a car than "rent" one. Plus as stated before, the money that you'll put into your teg is far less than buying or leasing a new car.

What kind of driving do you do? Is it freeway or mostly city?

If freeway, I'd keep the car - if you don't beat it & change the fluids, it'll run forever. If city, I'd think about getting rid of it now....

Mostly freeway driving.. there are so many freeways in san diego that it's easy to go pretty much everywhere by taking the freeway.

I've been changing the fluids regularly. So, you think it's better to keep my car and focus on buying a condo?

I would suggest asking a mechanic that works on the newer
Hondas if they have problems, like the 1990 I owned did.

Such as head gaskets going at around the mileage your at.
