yes my 16x dvd can't burn on-the-fly at 12x..

i have the 16x slot Pioneer dvd... for some reason it won't burn on the fly with my aopen 12x burner...

i returned my 16x toshiba dvd for the Pioneer so i could rip faster but now that the Pioneer can't burn @ 12x i am thinking it was a waste of time returning it and should of waited for the firmware updates...

has anyone had any success burning on the fly with the Pioneer 16x @ 12x...

does your burner support burnproof or justlink ?
and what software are you using when burning ?

Hmm, I don't think it reads at exactly 40x. I remember when I had mine, it would only rip at 12x in CDRWIN. I sold it, bogus crap.

okay, with no burnproof/justlink that can happen.
i guess, in case you don't get another burner with that feature, you'll be limited in burnspeeds on the fly, no workaround possible that i would know about.
or as you pointed out, another dvd with higher grabbing-speed would also help (toshiba-1502 or nec-5800).

taken from cdspeed

The Lite-On LTD163, a 16x DVD-ROM drive can read audio at FULL 20-48x speed!.
This is fast enough for making audio copies on the fly with a 16x, 20x and even a 24x recorder.
The DVD performance is also excellent, 11.92x on average which is as fast as the AOpen DVD-1640.
