he's 99 per cent a great driver but that other 1 per cent AARRRRRRRRRGHH.

How DO parents survive this??

make him pay for his insurance, or at least all tickets he gets and any raise in insurance. That will get him thinking about costs of being reckless.

Only let him drive between 1-2pm daily in a big parking lot to practice until he's 18.

cause everyone becomes a god of driving at 18:roll:

True. Boys at that age are really reckless, but I think it would be a little deterant to reckless behavior. He would need to get a job.

Also, OP don't buy him a new car, give him an old used car he really can't drive fast.

Also, make him do his own maintenance work on the car. i.e. - teach him how to fix up the car. Oil change... He smashes the car up, it is his responsibility to get it fixed. If he can't get it fixed, well then he can't drive until he works something out.

Well no but if he practiced for 2 straight years every single day for 1 hour, he'd become a good driver 🙂

Heh...my parents were thrilled when I turned 16.

It was almost like they lost a son and gained a live in chauffeur/errand boy.

Kids are more responsive on the road because they are younger. There potential for good driving is higher, yet they lack experience. Also around that age, boys tend to be highly reckless and agressive, meaning more high speed collisions.

Girls tend to get in more accidents, but they are usually minor accidents, meaning less insurance premiums.

That's what we need more wreckless drivers. What would help is if you sit in the car with him and go around local streets etc. That's what my father did with me for months and parallel parking.

I have never gotten into an accident or got a speeding ticket and have been driving for 8 years.

Kids these days with their stupid music blasting and other kids in the car == ACCIDENT. I would suggest your kid not to drive with any other kids because of all the distractions.

Well what kind of kid is he? Party person? Does he drink and do drugs?
If not he probably won't get in an accident too soon... I at first went initial d down my street cutting off cars and stuff (on rare occasions), but not anymore.
No accidents to date (20 yrs old).

Thankfully I have about 13 more years before I have to worry about that! Good luck, you'll need it.

are you 3? 😛

i hope you're joking

edit: bah, you edited it just before i posted

yeah I was being stupid.

gnumantsc: yes, more "wreckless" drivers would be great, but "reckless" drivers would be bad.

QFT!! Same thing happened to me when I received my driver's permit. My first car was a 1986 Olds Cutlass Supreme. That thing was a gas hog even it its time but it was a tank! Some great memories with that car.
