I knew this day would come eventually, but no matter how much preparation I had, it still caught me off guard.
On 4/22/2004 in the morning around 8:30am, my dog was having trouble breathing and eventually passed away. He's about 15 yrs old and is a golden retreiver/cockerspaniel mix and for the past 6months or so, he's been coughing a lot, like he has a lot of mucus or something buliding up.
I'm not 100% sure what happened in the morning cuz I'm at school in Austin, and my family is in houston. My mom said she took him out to use the bathroom at 4:30am and after a few minutes, she noticed him in kind of a weird position on the grass...apparently, he had no energy and couldn't get up. She helped him in and he seemed to be ok after that. Then in the morning, they found him next to their bed and something just didn't look right. He was making weird noises breathing. I think they knew he was dying so all they could do was pet him and call him a "good boy". A few minutes later, he was gone 🙁
I'm really sad since he was one of my "best friends" and to be honest, was probably the one thing that I loved more than anything else (besides family/friends/etc). I'm sure every dog/pet owner out there knows how attached you become to your pets. They become like family, no, they are family. It still hasn't set in that he's gone. I know he's not there anymore, but I still feel that if I go home now, I'll see his cute little face running to me. I'll eventually get over this but I'm just pretty sad that I won't be able to see him next time I visit home. The last time I saw him was in march during spring break.
This was my first and only dog and I pretty much grew up w/ him all my life.
Here's a pic of him.

All you pet owners, take time now to play w/ them. I wish I could have just one more day to play w/ my dog 🙁 Even though he was old, he always had a puppy face and acted like one. Everyone would always say "what a cute puppy" when I walked him 🙂
