A couple of weeks ago I was invited to dance at the Nebraska Governors Inaugural Ball (I do ballroom/latin/swing dancing for fun). Well that was last Friday and it was a blast. They had a military band playing and asked us to dance for 10 minutes (in 1940's military uniform for me and a USO girl costume for my wife). However we listened to the music and told them that we had to reduce the dancing to just 5 minutes since most of the music just doesn't fit under the ballroom category (what do you dance to the Star Spangled Banner or Yankee Doodle Dandy?). Anyways, as we were going on stage, the camera crew was blocking our enitre half of the stage in an attempt to get close-ups of the band. My wife kindly demanded "get off the stage were going to dance now" and we started to dance. That got their attention so they recorded our entire dance (2 foxtrots, a polka, a rumba, and 3 swings). There was a wall behind the stage with a large movie screen showing our every move. As I carried her off the stage, a reporter asked for our names. He said he got a good shot, but I figured with a dozen different performances with hundreds of performers they probably wouldn't do anything with our photo. Well the next morning, there was a 1/4 page photo of us on the the front page of our city's newspaper (top and center). Throughout that evening we couldn't go 1 minute without being stopped by someone complimenting us on the dance (or our outfits) asking us where we learned, etc.
Thanks to RossMAN for hosting this pic for a few weeks. Sadly the picture doesn't show us doing any interesting moves, but instead the photographer focussed more on the decorations in the arena.
