Hey... I've always wondered this: although my computer (a crappy pre-made one from a crap company called "Ez-Machine") has 128 MB RAM installed, Win98 detects it as only 120 MB.

Why is this? I know there is onboard sound/video on my system... but I have a separate video card and sound card that I use - it seems to me that Win98 is just ignoring that last 8 MB of RAM... any way I can make it utilize it?

Here's my system:

AMD 400 Mhz K6-2
128 MB RAM
20.0 gig HD
17" Monitor
SoundBlaster AudioPCI Ensoniq
3dfx Voodoo3 2000
University of Connecticut network

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have 128mb or 64mb of ram? You gave a conflicted info in your thread.

Make sure that your onboard video is disabled. That may have explained your "missing" ram if it's not diabled. Integrated video will make use of some system ram, could be 4 or 8mb of it.

Is it possible that the onboard video has not been completely disabled? Go into the bios and make sure that the onboard video is disabled, as well as the onboard sound. Otherwise, i havent a clue.

Best o' luck!

OK, I'm gonna check the BIOS now - I just don't remember seeing an "on/off" switch for my onboard video, only sound... lemme check.
