Help me, have to buy a lappy for collage and i liked the dell 1330 but i am not sure which type of the mxm slot it has... On top of that i am not sure if i can upgrade to a 9600M or mobile 3850.....

If anyone has a M1330 pls tell me if the graphics card is upgradeable to say a 9600M/3850 at least. Also if i bought a M1330 without the 8400 will i get a MXM slot or will i have to spend an extra for the 8400 ????

No, no, no, and no.

If you don't mind me asking, why do you need a 9600M in a laptop for a collage?

because i would love to play NFS, etc racing games "in collage to pass the time between classes" that the 8400 would chock on..

if you get one with integrated graphics, then that is soldiered onto the motherboard. there wont be a way to upgrade it later. its a cost/ space saving measure.
even with that 8400 i'm not sure if its the same way(can be upgraded) or not.. but laptops are built with a specific thermal threshold. you could risk damage by putting something in there that runs hotter than the 8400.

This is the reason why i dont like laptops.. They are expensive and dont play sh*t...

If suppose i skip to a laptop with a 9600M GT i get a larger screen and over all size...

This is by far the worst thing i have to buy.. laptop gaming sucks

Then don't buy a laptop for gaming, buy a laptop for school and take your existing solid gaming desktop with you. Why bother having two gaming systems, why not have one beasty desktop and then your portable school system that has good battery life, a great keyboard, and an easy to read screen?

Just bring your desktop like several of my friends have done. Even with a 15" laptop, the best you're going to get is ~8600GT level of gaming performance unless you pay through the roof for a boutique custom system.

Just get a 12-14.1" laptop that you can easily carry to classes and use the desktop for games. After all, it's not like you're going to be playing games while in class or anything... (at least I hope you won't be doing that)

By the way, an 8400M is perfectly capable of playing NFS if you keep the resolution and AA down. Some of them are quite overclockable, too. The Quadro NVS 140M in my Thinkpad (an 8400GS/GT equivalent) overclocks to 650 core/900RAM easily, at which point it's basically a 9600GS. By doing this I can get around 30-40 FPS in TF2 at 1280x800 by keeping the AA off.

Now seriouslly what do you think on net books?? Since you people are right that a gaming laptop is not the best way forward !!!

In India these net books are available and i like them by looks specs wise all are same if not similar :-

HP note
Acer Aspire One
MSI Wind

I gather all of these can play my 720p videos and are easy on my pocket. BTW DELL mini is also available but i hate the low capacity high cost SSD only option so i did not include that..!!

In laptops i get irritated by the native resolution of LCD's and thus have to play say NFS carbon on 1440 or the gaming experience is dull to say the least.

Who takes collage classes anyways, just kidding. There are periods when i am free in between 2 lectures and have to do something for like 1-2 hrs in campus...

What collage did you get accepted into?

Pro tip: to pass time between classes, you can study, do homework, review the previous lecture's notes, or be social and make friends. No gaming laptop needed AND your grades stay high!

Go with a gaming desktop and a cheapo laptop. Personally, I went with a nice laptop and a craptastic desktop.

That was not my mistake stupid firefox did it... I wrote collge and the spell check rewrote it as collage as a correction...!!!

But on the upper side finally i think i have the best lappy option a MSI wind "Hey i will be able to pass wind soon and that also around my lecturers"

I mean the wind has it all a good screen, good keyboard and can play C&C....!!

Oh there's some new netbook coming out from Asus... i forgot the exact model number - I think N10 or A10 or something... it's going to have a 9300GS video card. Sure, it's a bit weak, but remember that it's running at a LOW resolution and it's definitely the most powerful video card in any netbook!
