mx700/mx900 are your thumb buttons functional in games? ( COD, Battlefield 1942)

Replaced my intellimouse explorer 3 weeks ago with a MX900 (bluetooth)

My games are unable to detect the middle button and the two thumb buttons in these games (add armed and dangerous the list)

I tried assigning a keystroke to the thumb button (e.g thumb--backspace key) it still is not recognized by the games.

side question: is there way to turn off the irritating colored message that flashes on the screen every time you press a key stroke assigned key?

do I have to reinstall the game to be able to recognize the buttons?
are you guys using a different program to be able to map the thumb and middle buttons in games?

I bought this mouse due to the overwhelming recommendations from fellow members heralding it as THE gaming mouse to use. But obviously need help
making it work properly.

thanks

I have the same problem with my MX500, depending on the game (in most games they work, in some they don't). I haven't really looked into it, though.

Thanks for the reply.

That would really suck if the extra buttons are not usable in games. I would hate to have go back to my explorer.

I was pretty sure I was doing something wrong since a lot of members are using these mx mouses for gaming.

Anybody else have this problem? or solution?

Peace

The buttons work fine in games with my MX700 - the forward/back buttons on the side are mouse4 and mouse5 in Counter-Strike, for instance.

I'm sure there's a setting in the Mouse properties to turn messages off, and good luck getting it working. Some games won't detect the buttons natively, so you have to bind them in the console (eg. bind mouse4 crouch).

Mine didn't work for the longest time. then I figured out I actually had to bind the buttons in game options for them to do something. I mostly use it for things like sending frequently used voice commo ("Report in" in Americas Army, for example) and walk\run toggles.

Some games just aren't coded to accept more than 2 or 3 buttons, but as always, there are ways around everything.

even the little buttons flanking the wheel work.. but not that i use em. i just test em when i saw this thread to make sure, i have those extra keys bound to stuff like page up/end/page down etc... so maybe backspace doesn't work.. i dunno. do a uninstall/reinstall.

Mine don't work too well in games w/ the mx900. And I can't uninstall the mouseware because it's built into my bluetooth software!!

hmm, guess the blue tooth is more buggy at this point. ah well.

Nah, the buttons are just as functional as they were on my MX700. IN fact, the mouse is every single bit the same. I couldn't tell them apart if I wanted to. Aside from when you boot into windows after a restart, you have to wait for the bluetooth to sync your mouse and encrypt your keyboard.

Why would you go back to your other mouse? You can still use the other buttons... I don't know what I would do without those thumb buttons in internet explorer.

how about tabbed browsing in firefox? i hardly use forward back anymore, i use the thumb buttons for copy/paste now.

hmm but in games it seems to be a problem right? i dunno, just that i've never had the type of error messages he's complaining about, unless he's trying to bind keys with conflicts. in 1942 u can't bind backspace to something else if its already taken...

have an mx500 .. or 700.. the big one with a cord

I use one of the thumb buttons for jumping in all the games I have, works great
