MX700 mouse draining batteries

My brother has one of these mice (now about 2 years old) and it started running for only a few hours between charges.

So, I replaced the old batteries with some 2500 mAh NiMH batteries. Hoping that would solve the problem. After 1 week, these batteries, once charged, now only last 3-4 hours - and the problem has been so bad he's had to put the old batteries back.

Ideas?

I've got the mx700, now it's about 3 years old i think, and my charger/base station has for all practical purposes died. It tells me that the batteries are fully charged when they are anything but. I would charge in the base station until it said they were full, take out the batteries, and put them in an actual battery charger (sorry don't know how else to say it), and they would continue to charge. Now I just have two sets of batteries and swap them out of the battery charger.

Don't know if that is the problem you are having but worth a shot.
