MX700 + KVM = no MX700 anymore?!?

I bought my MX700 today and love the accuracy with it, but the thing does NOT like my KVM

I have a 2-port Linksys KVM and it worked wonderfully for my old Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Optical mouse (name is rearranged I think).

If I plug the mouse directly into my main system (via USB) it will detect the MX700 and everything is alright. But, as soon as I plug the USB-to-PS/2 adapter into it and re-attach it to the KVM, the thing will default back to a PS/2 wheelmouse and I will only have the main two buttons and the wheel

I got really spoiled with using the side buttons (4 & 5) on my Microsoft mouse and want these to start working.

Has anyone else had this problem and found out how to fix it?

You might need to go back into mouseware and reconfigure it; Once you use it as PS/2, its essentially a different device in the eyes of Windoze.

I have tried to re-configure it numerous times.....but it won't detect as an MX700.

I have tried both the mouseware on the cd with it and downloaded the latest 9.75 mouseware...neither make a difference.

If I plug it in directly to a USB port, it will detect a "Logitech Cordless USB Mouse" and then ask if I want to configure my MX700...

If I plug it in through the KVM, it will just detect a "Logitech-compatible PS/2 scrollmouse" and then I can't configure the extra buttons...plus the picture looks different than when it detects as a MX700

I will keep trying different things....but not looking good so far

Tried that too

If plugged directly into the computer (via PS/2 or USB connection) the MX700 detects fine....

But, if I try to use it with my KVM, it won't detect correctly

Kinda sucks :(

It might simply be an issue where the KVM is not supplying enough power to the MX receiver. Its not an uncommon problem, as many USB hubs don't supply enough power from the USB's native line. Some devices require more power and therefore need an actively powered Hub. Just a thought.

Well

I have been reading around other forums and it isn't a problem with MY particular KVM, but it is a common problem with this mouse on almost all KVMs

My old Microsoft mouse worked fine, but this one doesn't....I will keep researching though

Chizow - the MX700 has its own power plug so power isn't an issue. I wasn't aware of this until I bought one...it's kind of annoying, but I'm not sure how the mouse would work without it.
