MX700 battery issues

I have the MX700 wireless rechargable mouse and the batteries died. I tried putting in identical batteries except the manufacturer and they will not charge. Also tried putting in same type battery with higher charge capacity and it still will not charge.

Is the charger dead or will it only accept the batteries that came with it?
 
It will accept any AA nimh battery. I'd give Logitech a call. They have great customer service.
