MX518 or G5?

Yes, which is better lol....

I know the mx518 is optical as opposed to the g5's laser, but what's everyone's overall opinion over each of them? I think the mx518's got a sexier look, but meh
 
The only complaint I have about the Logitech G5 is that the damn thing only has one thumb button on the side of the mouse!
 
I vote for the G5 because I have the G7... although I've never used the mx518... I had the mx700 (which is wireless) and it blew...

Really? I have an Mx510 and i find it's incredible. The G5's price sticker is a little high for a mouse IMHO.

g5 has nice laser, but they devolved the damned button setup. buy a laser when they come out with a laser mouse the miraculously has the second thumb button reappear
 
Both good, but G5 has the weights (genuinely useful for some gamers) and it doesn't have the annoying red light underneath.
 
I have the G5 but find the weight far far too light. I maxed out on the adjustable weights but accuracy is top notch.
 
I read somewhere that you could remove a weight from the mx510, so I opened mine and there was no weight. Did manage to lighten my warranty though!

seriously, don't do that kids. Lint sticks to the adhesive now and it's annoying.
 
I found that the 510 had issues, at least in the past year or so. I'd stop moving the mouse, but it kept reading the pad and the cursor would jump around slightly, making aiming in CSS almost impossible. Plus the G5 has adjustable resolutions right on it, I've gotten good at dropping down to 400dpi while scoped in, and back up to 2000dpi when not.

2000dpi + 12 sensitivity = FTW
 
I had to pick up a cheap mouse the other day so I went to Best Buy. I also know my mx510 has an intermittent short in the cord, so I looked at some of the other mice to get a feel, so to speak, of what is out there. I was absolutely amazed at how much more comfortable the Razer copperhead felt than the mx models (I have big hands though).About as amazed as I was by the mx after using a :vomit; intellimouse for a year. I'm not endorsing Razr, as it seems like QC is spotty and software/driver support may border on nonexistant and I certainly wouldn't suggest you purchase from BB, but you may want to check it out, just for comparison.

lol, are you sure there was no weight? I'm not sure about the mx510, but I opened my old logitech dual optical once, took out the weight, which was just a slab in the shape of a stick of gum, but slightly smaller. It was mounted near the top of the mouse, I think beyond a ciruit board? I found the light mouse unusable, especially in games, so I put it back very soon.
 
I'm waiting on a corded mx1000. never had any luck with cordless mice (batteries/signal problems) and I like th button layout of the mx1000
 
I have the MX518, have never used the G5. G5 is newer, therefore probably better. Only negative on the G5 it would seem is no second thumb button and the price.
 
mx518 all the way! How does having a lazer mouse improve game performance!!?!? Have a 2nd thumb button FTW!!
