Initially, I was planning to get this pair of speakers. However, among all the reviews I read, one of them pointed out that the subwoofer of the altec lansing mx5021 was not magnetically shielded (http://www.atruereview.com/alteclansing/speakers.php) while the other reviews did not state so.

Is the subwoofer of mx5021 not magnetically shielded? If so, how far should I place it from my lcd monitor or is it possible for me to shield it magnetically?

Thanks in advance.

YOyoYOhowsDAjello, so I suppose the subwoofer produces a magnetic field which will interact with current to cause electromagnetic induction, which is EMI? Just like what you said, I read somewhere that lcd monitors are not affected by EMI, so is this electromagnetic induction the same EMI?

Thanks in advance.

These are all issues with magnetic and electric fields being created and induced from one another.

Cruise51 is right on with CRTs being affected by magnetic fields, but overall I think an LCD isn't going to have a problem with your sub.

CRTs are affected because the electron beam in the cathode ray tube can get bent and distorted by fields created from magnets. LCDs work differently and afaik it should be an issue.
