MX500 vs Mouseman dual optical

I have a mouseman dual optical right now and I'm considering getting the MX500, but I have scrolling problems in IE. I also noticed that the resolution of the MX500 is only 800 dpi via one sensor, whereas the dual optical has 800 dpi for each of its 2 sensors. Is the MX500 a less sensitive mouse?

You`ve to remember with the Dual optical ,only one sensor is ever working at anyone time,the dsp determines which sensor is giving the best reading then that sensor is the one tracking,it may change over to the other optical sensor at anytime depending on which one is giving the best reading,also the Dual optical scans at only 2000Hz while the MX series scans a lot faster , infact 40 inches per sec ,which means you can move your MX mouse 40 inches of travel in one second and it will keep track(faster even then any Microsoft mouse at the moment ).

The simple fact is the MX sensor is superior to the old Dual optical mouse.
Both Dual optical and MX series have 800 dpi.

Also the sensor window on the MX series is bigger then the older models so the sensor scans a bigger area.

Thanks, I didn't know that the dual optical only used one of its sensors at a time.

Is it a general consensus that the drivers suck across the board? (mouseware)

For me right now the only things not working on the mouse (MX500) as far as games go are the two cruise control buttons, everything else (2 side, task switcher, 2 regular buttons, wheel) works. I think that maybe people are being a litle too critical when they complain about this, or maybe it is more severe for them. I am using Windows XP Home with Mouseware 9.75. It is a great mouse though, excellent accuracy and feel compared to my old Intellimouse Explorer.

Is this scrolling issue only a problem in win2k? Would upgrading to XP solve the problem?

It's really just a driver issue which if it's not fixed it "should" be fixed soon.

as for accuracy, I have an mx 500 and I can move this thing across my desk as fast as I can and it keeps up perfectly, my old MS explorer certainly could not. And that's true about the dual optical only using one sensor at a time, the mx500 is much better.

I guess I'll stick with 2k for a while until I get further evidence for me to upgrade to XP.

I'd give the MX500 or 700 a shot, but mouseware doesn't cooperate with my system, so I wouldn't get the most out of all of those buttons. I get the best results with the standard win2k drivers.

I would go with one of the MX series mice as they are better overall. I personally feel that the dual optical mouse is very uncomfortable to use.

Hey guys. I bought the MX500 about four days ago and was having the aforementioned scroll wheel problem until I completely uninstalled the MouseWare drivers that came on the CD and installed version 9.75 from Logitech's website. Works perfectly now.

Smooth tracking in games over my old MS Wheel Mouse Optical is vastly improved, it's hard to believe such an improvement could occur just by changing mice. If you can get used to the size/weight, it comes highly recommended.
