mx500 side buttons ingame?

I am unable to set the side buttons on my Logitech mx500 mouse in Halo. Someone said this is a flaw with the logitech mice and you can't set these buttons to anything in any game.

can someone confirm or deny this?

This is a good question, because if you can't set the side buttons to, say, scroll weapons, then I will just look at another mouse myself, instead of paying 40 bucks for the MX500.

i absolutely love my mouse. perfect shape. works perfectly. the buttons click perfectly. best mouse ever.

www.gamersdepot.com says in their MX review that they couldn't get the side buttons to work in games. 🙁

cant you just assign the buttons to some other buttons like shift and so on in the logitech mouse control panel and then use them in game?

Then please tell me how you got it to do that. I play Soldier of Fortune II multiplayer (way too much) and have been unable to get the side buttons to work. The buttons on top don't work the way I'd like, but can't seem to change them.

I read on one of the forums that the problem was with the Logitech drivers and the recommended solution was to uninstall them and use only the Windows mouse drivers, which I've done. By doing this, I've been able to get my wheel working and the page up and page down buttons working in the game, but at the expense of a little screen stutter when using the mouse just browsing the web.

If yours works, how the heck did you do that?

I think with the Logitech drivers the buttons don't work, but I believe there are some patches out there that fix this. I have an MX500, and I finally got those buttons to work (although I forget exactly how).

Uninstall the "MouseWare" software that Logitech gives you. It's crap and messes up games.

Solved my problems of the side buttons sometimes not working in games.

the new mouseware works 100% you can map the buttons to a keystroke so like your side button can be mapped to H and if you have the MX500/700 the top buttons near the scroll can also be mapped. You can have a total of 8 functions assigned to the buttons.

Get the latest version of mouseware from logitech to do it

Yeah, the side buttons don't work in Halo for me either whether I'm using my MS Optical or MX500. I think is simply an issue with the game. Since you can only hold two weapons at a time anyway, I don't think the loss of the scroll wheel is a big issue though.

im uninstalling mouseware and seeing what happens. i have the latest i believe. ill have to try it with some other games too.

My MX500 side buttons work perfectly in AA: O, UT2k3, and HW2. (crouch, prone, sensors manager, etc)

I just install the .inf stuff from the CD via device manager, left the rest off.

ok i uninstalled the Mouseware drivers and the side buttons work in halo now.

i had to adjust the speed and responsiveness of the mouse though, since it was using default WindowsXP drivers.

the drivers that came with my MX500 (I bought it 3 days ago) didnt let me use the side buttons either, but I downloaded the latest drivers from Logi, and they work fine. HOWEVER, I now get a slight "jitter" with the cursor...
