a lot of the new Logitech mice are not Vista compatible. see here:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/downl...oftware/US/EN,CRID=1792,contentid=8749
Not really a big deal because Vista is relatively new. What is a big deal is that Logitech is being wishy washy about creating a vista driver. The MX500, MX510 and many other higher end gaming mice are not being supported despite a 5 year warranty. What did logitech tech support tell me to do? "you should go purchase the latest equivalent mouse". In Canada that runs at $100 Canadian. Rest assured that if they don't update the driver I'm not ever going to buy another Logitech product.

The native Vista driver will allow the basic mouse features to work. Is their software really necessary?

I removed the mouse software because it made the extra buttons not work in games on my MX500, and some games wouldn't even recognize the wheel button. Removed the software, everything worked. I replaced it with the MX518 and never bothered installing its software, it works without it.

I don't install Logitech's software on any of my mice. I've had MX300, MX500, two MX1000s, and countless other models and their software just sucks. Fortunately the hardware is better than anything I've come across.

DITTO!
I've used much of their hardware but after the first time I've not used the software again.

I had the same problem with their cameras on XP Pro. Most hardware vendors state "we will have drivers when the OS comes out" but Vista was in development for 5 years, and testing for 2 years, so do hardware vendors think it was NOT going to be released?

More like MS sends them new driver requirements every so often; this means every time MS changes something they have to change their driver also.

But guys, logitech s/w is needed for remapping of some mouse keys, like I find convinient, remapping my Middle mouse button with the docufllip button on my MX1000,
Also side scrolling speed and acceleration by tilt wheel can't be controlled by windows...
so is there any other way..?

It looks like Logitech is doing what some other companies are doing. Leveraging Vista so their customers upgrade to newer devices.

Thankfully, my Logitech G15 Keyboard software works in Vista with the right version.

However, your mouse will still function, their software will not. I have not looked in Vista, as I do not have the need, but you might want to check and see if you can assign buttons through what Vista offers.

I have to say Razer has had awesome Vista support for both Vista x64 and x68,their mouse software is Vista compatible.

True you can use Vista's default mouse drivers as well.

Actually, Setpoint 3.30 does support the MX510 and above under Vista. Logitech needs to update their site. The MX500 will need to use the native drivers for general use, but you can't reassign the buttons.
