I was wondering if a MSI GF2 MX400 64mb would be faster then a 3D Prophet (geforce 1) and if so how much?. I have a brand new MX400 for free and i'm wondering if its worth installing or not.
I believe that the MX400 will be slightly faster, moreso if overclocked. It also depends on if your GF1 is DDR or not; if it is, the gap between the two will be smaller.
Here's a review with benchmarks of a GF1 DDR and an MX400: PCStats

i would just keep your current card b/c it performs very near the gf2mx or better than it, according to anand's original benching of the gf2mx... (Link) now as for the fact that the card is a mx400 doesn't really matter, b/c it is memory limited so the extra 25MHz on the core doesn't help any (you can check anand's article on it Here)... any other questions?
The GF DDR is generally faster then the GF2 MX400. The MX400 is certainly a more powerful core, but your seldom able to truly take advantage of that due to memory bandwidth limitations.
At 640x480, and sometimes 800x600 the MX400 is a bit faster, but any higher and the GF DDR will open up an increasingly larger lead over the MX400.
Unless you only play at low resolutions, I'd definitely stick with the GF DDR.
