mx1000 woes :/

Well I finally found a decent deal for my MX1000 ($29.99 + tax) and I'm having a slight issue. Whenever I'm using my mouse, it tends to "jump up" slightly. By that I mean the cursor jumps up about an inch or so once in awhile.

I thought it might have been my desktop surface but it's still doing it with a blank sheet of white paper.

I have SetPoint version 2.40.855

Any ideas?

Update:
I came home today and lo and behold, theres a brand new mx1000 sitting at my door. I wonder why they sent it before I sent my cut off USB connector

unless there is a driver issue, you won't see a difference between usb and ps2

You'd have to see my setup to understand. I have to get on the floor, hold the pc up with one hand, remove the two pegs holding up the front of the shelf for the pc, lower the pc slowly, and pull it out of it's alcove without pulling any of the wires out from the back.

Then I can access the back of the pc. Reverse process to put it back in :)

Um,,, Logitech replaces things effieciently,, Just call them,, and if u sound sincere enough "Not that u arn't" they will replace it SNAP! I called them bout my mx510 and they gave me a new one without asking me for my old one back.

The USB port has more bandwidth.

And the jumping thing is a characteristic of all wireless mice; if you try to draw a straight line too fast, the mouse cursor starts moving up the screen. The solution for gaming is to turn down mouse sensitivity, which will improve aiming/RTS accuracy alot, although it take a bit of time to get used to (then again, hardcore gamers have insane low sensitivity settings anyway). For Windows use, its a bit troublesome, its just something you have to consider.

Good information. But I never had any jumping issues whatsoever with mx700 :/

it's the patch that OCs ur USB port, NORMAL is 125mhz,, when OCed it's 500mhz, that means ur mouse is 4 times more reactive. Making it more accurate and sensitive. its a world of difference when u first use it

anyone know where i could get the 500mhz patch?
btw, are there any long/short term damages that could be done if you overclock the usb to 500mhz?

QT, you can bitch all you want to about "wireless is pansies", but my MX1000 is just as sensitive as the mx510 I was using before. Also, your problem IS the ps2 port, for those of your who said it doesn't make a difference, it does with the early versions of the Mouse, becauase I had the same issue, and I moved it to PS2 and it went away immediately, so it is JUST a wireless thing. Which BTW is BS, not all wireless mice jump around on the screen.

Ahh,, ST FU n00b... Wireless mouses cannot take advantage of the 500mhz patch by the way! so don't talk less u know. I've got no idea where to find the patch now, because i got it LONG long time ago,, PM me and i'll email u the patch+instructions, requires reboot in safe mode

It turned into Inveterate's personal "I know mice better than you thread" I wasn't even TOUCHING your "OC your USB" BS. I was simply making a statement that not all of us need our technology to make up for lack of reflexes. Watch who you call a noob, because just beause you found this patch of yours SOOO long ago, doesn't make you better than any of the rest of us.

I called tech support and they're telling me I have to cut off the usb cable from the receiver and mail it in to them. I'm kind of reluctant to cut it off and mail it to them via snail mail :/

Have you tried to use the PS/2 port? I would try that and see if it works before butting any cords, unless they have already sent you a replacement.

I'm going to try to exchange it once and see if I can get a "newer" model. If that doesn't work, I'll try the PS/2 port.

Reminds me of the Futurama episode when Bender had to cut off his antenna to not disturb the TV signal.

you know i always thought of USB as the more unstable bus. Maybe i am just crazy. Although i like USB an all but well anyone that has been using USB from the start knows where i am coming from. =/

Oh yeah, when USB first came out I wouldn't use it to save my life. It was horrifically unstable and SLOOOOOOW. Now though I think it has gotten MUCH better, use it for everything, and I don't think it is USB per se that is the problem just the firs models of the MX1000 had some issues with it. Supossedly the newest drivers should fix it, but that didn't work for me, so I went back to using PS2 and it worked fine. Which was nice, because I didn't want to have to RMA it.
